I'm planning to buy a 3.5 ton - probably a Movano type (I used to have an Iveco but want something more economical). I've heard Evolution are good and also Marlborough - but Select, Regent and some of the others also sound good.

Does anyone have any recommendations re reliability/price/good service please?

My horse is 16hh - is there enough headroom in them?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Thanks for your comments and for bumping the thread. Good to see votes for Evolution - I will definitely check them out.

Looking at other threads on this subject there seems to be a lot of controversy over payloads. In a nutshell, general consensus is that if carrying a 16hh horse, the 3.5 ton Masters etc are very much a one horse box.

Thanks again - look forward to any other thoughts or recomms too.

i would suggest one with the floor low to the ground (ie between wheels not above) however im having one build which is high up (transit) but will be for ponies and herringbone so not as much of an issue. if money was no problem, google for pics of 'chaigley weekender' i would love this box, might not be enough payload for a horse though

Most of the coachbuilt types will take one big horse or two ponies hight should ok.. is it new or used the reason I ask is because there is a new model movano/ master out now so dont get stuck with the old one if your buying new unless there is a very good discount , dont know yet how reliable the new ones are going to be, but the old one is quite good, gear boxes can give trouble but otherwise not bad, remember they are only a cheap van chassis and wont last like a bigger lorry..
