3.5 Ton Horseboxes Which are the best builders and best Chassis

Can't tell you the best builders, I've got a Renault Master chassis which I'm very happy with. If I was building I'd go for a half and half with the top doors opening outward. Mine is 2/3 ramp, which is a little heavy to raise and 1/3 top which opens upward and needs very strong struts to prevent it dropping slightly making the way in a little less inviting, not that my horse minds but some would!

Go for Renault master chassis, they have low centre of gravity so give horses a better ride.. Look at BOSS HORSEBOXES in Flint north wales, they have a brill reputation and Charlotte dejaardin has one... I prefer rear facing ones, with a bulkhead so horses can not jump over into grooms area... Removable partition is a must... And rubber floor over aluminium and rubber up walls halfway... Half and half ramp is best, top opens up or outwards..

I have a Renault, it is fab. I would have a look at Bloomfields. Not the cheapest by any stretch, but all approved, and bulkhead tested to 4 X the weight required, and they only stopped there because the testing equipment could not pile any more weight on.

I have the "Professional" version, with stallion stalls so no breast bar to get caught up on. The rear is openable in case of emergency, and the door wide so you could lead the horse straight out.

We are on our third Renault Master, our first we sold in 2011 and was a J Reg, it pretty much sailed through its last MOT with us, just needed some old wires replacing. I checked very recently and it's still taxed and MOT'ed so hopefully someone is still having fun with it!

We now have a Boss and it's AMAZING, I love love love it!!! Desperate to get back out in it as horse has been poorly. This is the first one that I have had where the top part of the ramp opens upwards which before getting this I was worried about as I thought it may seem claustrophobic but it really isn't. I love the ramp is on the offside as I can take up inside much more easier then before. Both my horses have travelled brilliantly in it and haven't moved, I had to check last time as it felt like he wasn't in and I really thought I had forgotten him for a minute. We have had our last two engines re mapped which is brilliant!

We looked at Freddie Gover Horseboxes and got to see a couple at various build stages which was great and Regent was also on our list but we got very luck and bought our Boss through a HHO member!

Just to add our last lorry had two sheets of rubber matting which was a nightmare as my youngster would get it up every trip (my older boy never) but he can't do that now with this floor and the drain holes are brilliant, they are everywhere even in the lockers!

Hello, hello!!! Glad to see you are enjoying your Boss. Charlie and I finally got out in our box this week and I love my new one too x

We looked at Bloomfields and were very impressed both by the quality of build and safety features. They were also very helpful and answered all of our questions. In the end we went for a 7.5t but if I was going for a 3.5t I would definitely be looking there. The downside is at the time they had a long waiting list.

An option would definately to look at the Courcheval boxes...been watching them make them alongside my Mercedes 12 tonner and am well impressed with the work they do to convert one and the interiors are really clever!
