I dont think its tall enough and I def dont think its very likely to be legal weight wise (bear in mind its lorry weight and horses weight and driver and any passengers weight and tack and rugs and everything. Unless the horses are Victoria Beckham esque.

Are you just carrying one horse under 16hh? If so you will be fine with 7ft head room.
Your post is a little confusing as I first thought you'd bought a 3.5t to carry 2 x 16.2 which as Mike007 says will make you well overweight. They really can only carry one horse or 2 ponies legally.

what ??????????
god now i am confused
it def wont be overweight .
i just wondered if 7ft was average height of 3.5 ton boxes .
the equitrek sonics can legally carry 2x16hh

Thanks, I realised that when I re read it but noticed that others had missed 2nd paragraph too so thought I mention it before OP thinks some of us had gone mad lol

Hi I looked into this when I was thinking of downsizing from a 7.5t and most have a payload of about 1200kg which unless they were very slight TB's would struggle to carry 2 horses, let alone the kit and passengers as well. The sonic has a payload of 1080kg so its pretty much impossible to be within weight with 2 horses. Its really bad that these boxes are advertised to carry 2 big horses.

I carry my 15hh cob quite happily in my 3.5t box which has a payload of 1.25t. I would be very surprised if you were overweight with 1 15.2hh horse in it, depending on what equipment and passengers you would have of course! Just make sure you get a weighbridge certificate.

I think most of the new builds are 7'6, some can be made to 8' but the IW505 trailer which is up to 2 x 16.2 is 7'1 high. I'd say 7ft is a great height for your horse. Sorry if I sound like a saddo with the facts and figures, Im not I promise

, just looked into it when I was thinking of one.

My 3.5t is about 7'9" tall internally, and my 16.2hh has lots of headroom in it..
I think 7' is a tad low, but as long as horse isn't prone to shaking his head about, you should hopefully be ok.

Your welcome Wildwest.
Kitsune, I agree, I wouldnt either, my box is 7'6 headroom and my horse is 16.2hh but I would travel a 15.1 in a 7ft headroom. A friend of mine travels her 16.3 in a IW505, god knows how she fits, my boys ears were touching the roof in my old 505. We didnt leave the yard, trailer was sold and I was fortunate to be able to buy a wagon.

I think 7 ft will be fine for what you want to carry.. its about the same as most trailers however extra hight in a lorry
helps with ventlation and looks more inviting to the neddie..
however I would take it to a public weighbridge so you know what is its legal payload is

i used to have a 3.5t transit horsebox, which was 8ft high inside!!!! and it was a nightmare, it used to sway so much that i wouldnt dare drive it if it was even slightly windy. I think 7ft should be fine for a 15.2.
