Can someone please confirm for me the cost of taxing a 3.5 ton lorry i think according to the direct.gov.uk web site it is £185 and anything over that up to 7.5 ton is £165 ton (older lorry). alos how much is the MOT??? any idea how much isurance is on somehting like a 3.5 ton lorry and a leyland roadrunner or similar 7.5 ton.

thanks

Can't help for over 3.5t lorry, but just picked up my new (second hand) 3.5t lorry today (had to slip it in very excited). Tax is £190 or £185 depending when it was registered. The MOT is the same cost as a car so will depend on your garage but in and around £40, I am 30 years old no claims or points or convictions and insurance (for any driver over 25) and horsebox recovery is £280

wow very jelous, what did you end up with. I ahve a problem as i only have one horse so 3,5ton would be best although i am old enough to be able to druive a 7.5ton without taking another test but horsey is 17hand.

I drove it from cardiff airport to glasgow today and it was great, so happy with it. Polly the lady who runs this company is incredibly helpful and would be able to take you through the thoughts of which size to go for.
Word of warning if you go for a private sale though, i nearly bought one private and was not 100% sure of condition so I got one of the vehicle checks that you can get and turned out, there was loads of things wrong with it and it had been clocked by over 150,000 miles, you can check all the old MOT certs on the VOSA website, for free, (which may show if there have been any irregularities with milage) with just the reg no and any MOT cert no or the V5 logbook reference.
