Prob been asked many times before on this forum however I will ask again!
I might be in the market for a new lorry in the very near future

and was wandering if:
1. trying to fit a 17hh horse in one is a good idea (travelling on his own)
2. What the best 'make' is

Hoping to event again next year so need to get myself mobile and not liking the prospect of doing my trailer test!!! Also without buying an HGV Bert does not like travelling herringboned as he stands totally consertinered throughout the journey

Any thoughts?

You can get them for a 17hh but they are few and far between and you pay a premium for them. The best makes are the VW LT35 or the LDV's from what I was told, I have an LDV which is fab but only just fits my 16.1hh in. VW's have more available for larger horses, but are expensive....

Mine would suit you, and at some point in the next 6 months I will be upgrading as need to carry 2 horses and mine only has a payload for 1. When are you looking to buy and what sort of budget are you looking at?

Ooh let me know when you put yours up for sale please! (pm me if you like!)

I will realistically be able to buy in around 6 months time, budget is flexible depending on the vehicle. I am veering away from the VW as I know someone who has one and it doesn't drive well and is fairly juicy (what lorry isn't!)

Something based on a Ford would be great as my mechanically minded OH can buy cheap parts and service Fords which is a great help!

Arrrr, well you wouldn't want mine then as it's a VWLT35

The VW's don't rust as much as the Fords although the parts are probably cheaper for a ford.

I'd go for a 5 tonne if I were you - few and far between though. Iveco particulary good - sold ours 9 months ago and back to a trailer now

Can't drive a 5 tonne as I took my test after 97!
Have seen the Marlborough lorry and they look very nice. Will have to keep a look out thanks guys!
