I keep hearing everywhere that these are really sought after and hard to get hold of etc. So why isn't anyone buying mine?

Not advertising, but just wondered if people think they are usually easy to sell. I've priced mine competitively (compared to others currently for sale) and it's a really nice lorry - admittedly it is old, but that means its a reasonable price.

Any opinions?

Thanks,

I had the same experience with mine. It was a little Renault Master van, L-reg; in hindsight I paid way too much for it and in the end I got a few hundred quid for it for scrap as I just couldn't sell it.
My thoughts would be that most people have a lorry because they a) need the living/tack space and b) need to carry 2/3+ horses at one time. A 3.5 ton lorry doesn't really help with either of those at it is too small,(some of the little ones like mine you can only really get 1 horse in, especially if they're big horses) - so you may as well save yourself the expense of buying, running and maintaining another vehicle, and just get a trailer. Especially as the Equi-treks are now competing directly with little lorries as they offer side loading, tack lockers, day living etc.
Those are my thoughts anyway, may be wrong!

Nope, I have a 3.5ton,. and finding one to take a big horse was a nightmare. They are very popular, where are you advertising? And what model etc is it? Maybe the old ones are moving more slowly....

it's on Horsemart - and over 700 people have viewed the ad - which is what is strange. It is a Bedford Cf - and it's quite roomy - can fit one 17hh horse in - not two cos of weight, but easily two 16hh (depending on weight) It's old - d-reg, but only 80k miles, which is nothing for a diesel.

It also has quite a lot of space in the luton buit - two saddle racks etc. Can't understand it!

I want one and can't find a good one that I can afford! I imagine they're very popular because of the trailer tests and stuff that younger drivers now have to do. The worry is if they're reliable and safe still, as if it breaks down on you you're pretty screwed if you're on your way to or from somewhere! Where have you advertised?

That's what I thoguht! It is just under £3k (on Horsemart), so not much different from what many pay for a trailer.

I understand the old/reliable issue, but mine has always been great - plus break down cover doesn't cost much, so you can always have peace of mind.

Hmm...

That's the one. Maybe it is - although I've seen ones the same or even older for more - and much shabbier. But as you say there are also newer ones a bit cheaper - but also not so 'nice'!

It's hard to price them really....

Sadly the "old style" 3.5 tonne lorries are just not wanted - everyone wants the new look ones and these old faithfuls stay on the market. I have kept my 64,000 mile old hardwood transit-based box as field storage and a mobile birthing shed for the sheep because I was offered so little for it that I couldn't have afforded to build a decent shed for the money. It's a crying shame.

Hopefully somone will fall in love with yours and buy her.
