3.5t and 2 500kg horses

this might be a stupid question,
but if you have a 3.5t box, can you transport legally 2 16h 500kg horses plus extra tack, hay etc
what's the regulation?

It depends on the weight of the box unladen.
What you would need to do is take the box, complete with full tank of diesel, water, tack, people etc to a weighbridge. |If the weight comes in under 2500 then you can take 2x 500kg horses, if it's over then you can't.

It depends on the payload normally you have 2.5t payload so you have any extra 1t to put on the lorry but check the details of the lorry

Depends on the unladen weight of the individual box. This can vary wildly!
In short, more often than not most boxes are not light enough to take 2 horses and tack etc.
But there are some models, suchas the Theault renault masters that would be within the weight limit.

depends what the payload is on your lorry? take it to a weigh bridge with people req and tack and clobber for 2 big horses and see what it weighs empty. then work out the weight of your horses and add together. horse weigh tapes generally measure quite a bit lighter than actual weighing!! but i think you will be over weight!!

My 3.5t lorry has a payload of 1,250kg. So with two 500kg horses, tack, water, and people I would be over weight. If I do need to take two horses then somebody follows in a car with tack etc so it's just me and the horses in the lorry.

As the others have said - you need to check your lorry as they all differ. The best way is to take to a weighbridge. Could be a tight squeeze tho...

As above. For example, I had a 7.5 tonne box, but could only carry 1.8 tonne payload.

The box was stalled for four, but in reality they would have had to be rescue cases! The 1.8 had to include fuel, people, tack, feed, hay, horses, in fact everything that wasn't part of the lorry itself.

The theault I borrow does but it is used for racing so it doesn't have any extras as such(eg benches in the back,no kit cupboard etc)

No way will a 3.5 ton take 2 x 16.2 without being overweight. You may just about get away with one 16.2.

only was is to get it weighed! there are 3.5t boxes that can take 1t of horse plus people,tack,fuel.
