3.5t collapsible breast bar

I'm wondering what the advantages are of having a collapsible breast bar that can be released from outside the box.

only thing I can imagine would be so you don't have to go in beside a panicky horse trying to release pins etc?

although if it gets to the stage that the bar needs dropped you've probably already been inside and I'm not sure if the above makes much sense!?

I suppose also if a horse panics and tries to escape it won't get into painful situations which have occured previously.

People have died inside horseboxes trying to free a trapped horse. It's much safer if you can drop the bar from outside the lorry or trailer without getting near flying hooves.

Having had a horse jump the breast bar whilst travelling i will always have a collapsable one now.
Mine wasn't and we had to dismantle it whilst he was still over it. Not an easy thing to do.

Release from outside and collapsible are different. The outside ones usually have bolts ending in a "loop" rather than a hex, which you can get a bar in. Just remember to carry the right size bar, if the horse is on it it will take some turning.

Collapsible bars use variations on either a clamp squeezing the bar which will give under a certain amount of pressure or a frangible bolt ditto.

The whole point of a collapsible Breast bar is that it collapses itself when it is under a certain load .
No need for anyone even to know there was a problem .

Didn't even know that there were such things as self collapsing breast bars, they sound rather good. Another thing learnt from HHO!

Tbf, I think that this is what most folks mean when they refer to a collapsable breast bar. I've released a breast bar safely from the outside with a horse straddling the bar, hinds legs off the ground, armed only with an allen key. Both horse and trailer were barely dented .

Thanks...I've been experimenting with trying to make it release from the outside but had difficulty unscrewing even with light pressure on the bar...I'd only seen photos of others, assumed it was a thumbscrew but if it's a lever bar that makes more sense!

I've seen boxes advertised as collapsing when a certain weight/pressure is applied...they must give quite easy as they can also be dropped by hitting near the end with a supplied mallet!
Probably the easiest solution if I knew what size/strength of bolts used....assuming the companies who have these have put some research in to it
