Who do you recommend?

It's that fun time of year again and I have heard some concerning things about how lorries are recovered by my current company. - Thanks

Lorry Insurance is with KBIS but breakdown is with OHTO http://www.ohto.co.uk/

Not had to use either yet but mine is old and only does local shows, NFU wanted a bigger premium than the value of the lorry!!

I'm told OHTO are very good and always send replacement transport etc and is run by people who have a clue about horses. I've not used it though so can't comment personally.

I have been with shearwater for two years, including breakdown called them out twice, both responses fast and got me going again. Can't fault them.

What is their policy if your lorry can't be mended at the side of the road? Do they send alternative transport for the horse and then recover the lorry or attempt to tow it with the horse on board?

I have only had to claim a screen and mine were fab, but I have read that they towed someone back from Scotland with the lorry at 45 degree angle and horse still on board!

Doh hadn't occurred to me to do the insurance and breakdown separately!

Thanks will look into OHTO - sounds exactly what I want i.e. reassurance that if something goes wrong, my horse will be taken care of.

It cost me about £5 more to do it that way so worth it, I'm not so worried about insurance as its a cheap old box but am more concerned about breakdown.

I am with Four Counties insurance and their recovery, however I haven't had to use their recovery company. I had a dreadful experience with Anthony Evans insurance and recovery who towed my box with a horse on board, like yours, with a front lift - I could see the speedometer as I was sitting next to the driver and he was driving on the motorway WELL in excess of the speed limit. They dealt with my complaint appallingly and I would never ever use them again.

This is exactly why I do not want my recovery with them anymore ;)
