Evening all,
We have finally bought a new horsebox after a year of searching - so excited!
It is a 3.5t and we are looking to insure it and also get some breakdown cover (which we hope we won't be needing!!) I was just wondering who everyone uses and what companies you would recommend? Regarding the breakdown cover - I need one that will take her home rather than rescue the box and leave us stranded at the side of the road.

(Ps - I know someone will ask the question - yes, it will only have one horse in it and the payload has been checked as has the construction by a mechanic :wink3:)

Many thanks, cakes on offer x

I have gone with Kbis and I am in the process of making a claim (I scraped it down side of wall and they aren't arguing) and they have been great so far, I also have their breakdown cover, luckily not had to use it yet but it seems to cover everything and the kitchen sink ! make sure you have a spare wheel as looking through the breakdown cover it states you must have one ... Sensible but used vans quite often seem to be missing spare and they don't need one for mot !

I use Shearwater for insurance and they have recovery with Equine Rescue Services who have a fab reputation. So it's not the cheapest cover, but I did have cheap recovery with a cheap insurance company and would never go for the cheapest ever again after the experience I had with them when mine broke down - I did not appreciate having my horsebox on a front wheel lift with the horse inside doing over 80mph on the motorway.

^ oh god that sounds awful, exactly the kind of thing I'm worried about!

Thank you for the suggestions everyone, I will give KBIS & Shearwater a call tomorrow. And thanks for the tyre advice meesha, makes a lot of sense but not something I'd thought about!

I have been insured with Anthony Evans for about 8 years, for both 3.5 and 7.5. I haven't claimed on insurance but have used breakdown once for my old 3.5 ton van. At first they wanted to tip it 45 degrees (nose-down) with the horse in - I had to argue to get them to send out a flat-bed. They did it in the end.
