I currently have a 3.5t horsebox with a luton back, which my 15.3hh mare can travel in comfortably 'herringbone' and she travels perfectly. She doesn't travel well in a trailer and is very unstable.

I am considering converting a Movano type van into a horsebox - I was wondering what experiences people have had and do you think my mare would travel ok as she doesn't travel well in a trailer. I understand in these they travel backwards.

If there is anyone locally (I'm in NG13 nr Grantham) that has one I could poke round I would be grateful (and if they would take my mare for a spin - without cash reward of course because that would mean hire!!

I don't have one, but am considering getting one and came across Mark Harris (?) commercials at Heckington show. Google them as I had a chat with them about the boxes and they are offering some for 'trial', might be worth considering?
I presume they are fairly local to you...

Horses do travel well facing backwards. Rather than a straight forward conversion you would be better to get it coach built so it is more sturdy and has a higher headroom.

Im in the same dilema so please let us know how you get on. My horse point blank refuses to be shut in a trailer although he did travel a couple of times in one with us. Hand on heart text book driving but he scrabbled arround at first. We have a 7.5t which he travels great in but I would prefer something smaller really and for what we do a trailer would be the most economical but thats just not to be. If and when I sell my 7.5t I would really like a 3.5t but I dont know if he will load in one as its smaller or travel in one backwards.
Ive read a lot of horses going over the partition into the grooms area so it does bother me a bit. I have seen this partiton built higher and also what look like anti weave grills on to try and prevent this. Just something to consider.
