Sorry if this has been posted before, I just looked a few pages back and couldn't find anything to do with these type of horsboxes. My head is going round and round, I cannot decide what chasis, ie Master, Movano etc or are they all the same? Im not keen on the van conversion types, so would want a coach built one. Im after some inspiration! Any comments/ opinions from people that have one.
Thanks oh and I have a 14.3 welsh D to transport.

I have a Renault Master Chasis, I have been really happy with it and found it easy to get fixed etc. I have a Renault Master Hunter II from Marlborough Horseboxes and would confidently recommend them based on my own experience.

Ive got a Marlborough Hunter as well, and i have been really pleased with it. My horses load and travel exceptionally well and seem to prefer travelling backwards. Mine is on a 2.8TD Renault Master chassis and now having owned a Marlborough i would happily recommend one.

I've got the Marlborough Sport based on a 2.8 TD Renault Master (the van type one). It's great and so easy to drive. I've got a 15.1 and still growing! Welsh D and he travels brilliantly in it.

I have a Master with 2.8 engine and it is absolutely fantastic. Had a TK for last 13 years and can't believe how easy the Master is. I can even park it on the drive at home and use it when my car is out of action as it is so compact. I purchased mine from Hartcliff Horseboxes based near Penistone in South Yorkshire and the build quality is superb.

Paul was fantastic to deal with can highly recommend them.

LOL! Love their claim that it has a payload of 1.2t, and can carry upto 2 x 16.2hh. What about the driver and tack etc

These adverts bug me as they are misleading

very mis-leading, i agree.

on average a complete "outfit" weighs 3/4 of a ton, so 2 x 16.2 would add up to 1.5 ton..0.3 ton overweight!

Hi there
thanks for all your replies. I agree too that they are misleading, luckily I have 14.2 welsh so I am lucky I wont have to carry anything bigger/ heavier. There are so many companies that make them now, it hard to decide what one to go for.

My box is a 2.8 turbo diesel. I am also a bit of a nerd, I took it to the local weighbridge and had it weighed, just had me on board and odds and sods in the tack locker. The gross weight was 2.52 tonnes, therefore I have just under a tonne of horse capacity.

It cost me a whole 3 pound 50 to get it weighed at the public weighbridge!

I usually just carry my 16.2 boy but have taken his 15.2 friend with me on short journeys. If I was to go further afield I would double check my weight with both of them on board but I'm pretty sure we should be ok.

The key thing with the ad for Hartcliff Horseboxes is that he does actually say what the payload is. How many manufacurers/horsebox sellers actually do that. Yes I admit that two average 16.2's would make the vehicle overweight but as we know not all horses are average (I'm glad mine isn't!!). I think the point being made is that there is enough headroom for a 16.2 which there is. Saying that it would depend on the way the head/neck is set on to said 16.2 as they are not all the same. I don't think anyone who manufactures 3.5 boxes on Movano/Master chassis's is saying they will carry anything but they do have a place in the market. All that said I will repeat that the build quality is excellent.
