Hi all

Looking to buy a 3.5tonne horsebox and would like some recommendations/shared experiences

Saw one I quite liked at Equicruiser today - anyone had any good or bad experiences of their boxes?

What about Bloomfields? And Equestrivan? And Alexanders?

Thanks
Kat

I've got mine on order from three counties horseboxes, they've been very helpful so far and you can pick and choose what you want in the box :) think they start at about £7500 for the basic conversion

Bought one recently.
Be aware probably a quarter of adverts appear to be fakes/scams. The saying if it looks to good to be true it probably is definitely applies to horse box buying!
Check silly things before you buy like the locks all work etc
Weigh potential purchases at a weigh bridge. I can't actually legally take my own horse and my daughters together although they fit beautifully. A box that takes 2 16.2 horses actually may well not!
It will be your best ever purchase, we love ours and the fact we are independent. Good luck :)

I've got one on order from Equi-Sport - heard a lot of good things about them. Depends on your budget but best thing would be to ring them up and ask about the safety features of their designs as I've noticed it's things like emrgency rear exit and such that distinguish the cheaper boxes from the slightly more expensive ones.

Please check the weight of anything you want in the living, I have seen a few small boxes which I doubt would carry more than one section A legally!

I purchased a used Renault master 'Marlbrough' conversion last year on a p-reg. It has a good strong bulkhead, solid box with new floor, full of useful storage and a full head to toe partition and has a payload of 1270kg. It is cheep to run and takes my section D and pony no problem. In fact my section D used to fuss loading in my old box but after 2 trips in this one he now loads straight in. If you can get one of these boxes or can get a Marlbrough - I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Good luck with your search.

Exactly this - my niece has had hers built (3.5t) by a reputable company and specifically asked for them to ensure there was enough payload to carry 2 horses. Shes had it a while and it now seems she is overweight carrying 2 horses and her equipment. Her payload is only 820kgs!

Thanks guys. I will most definitely go into the process with my eyes open

If anyone sees an ad for a decent box not to far from Newbury (max 20k budget but would rather spend less!) please do share with me
