All I want is a reasonably priced, oldish lorry to take G out in!! DO 3.5tonne, preferably to take a 16.2hh horse only out in actually exist within an hours drive of Nottingham?!

To be honest, I think you will struggle to find a little 3.5 tonne that takes 16.2 horses unless you buy one of these ultra modern ones.

Is there any reason you are not going for a 7.5 tonne? They are more stable and you can fit more stuff in it!

I know, but have seen a few VWLT35's with the headroom.... cant drive a 7.5tonne as got new licence.... and parts etc are not as expensive for smaller lorries, they are easier to maintain....

thanks DD, I have seen a few, but its just the probs of getting someone mechanically minded to check them if out of "home territory".... going to learn to be a mechanic I think!!

When buying a small lorry make sure that it is a true 3.5 tonne, as a lot of them are only 2.9 tonne but classed as 3.5 tonne, I recently bought an old LDV 400 that is classed as a 3.5 tonne but is actually rated as 4.1 tonne, yes its slow, noisy, a bit rough round the edges and heavy to drive, but its got 12 months MOT partitioned for up to 3 ponys or 1 horse and a pony and starts first time every time and I only payed £1395 for it.

can't believe you've not found anything yet - shame you are stuck to hour from Notts..... only thing we've got is little cheapy transit type with Ifor Wil type forward facing bit on back - basically like trailer on transit chasis...... you could have it sprayed and it would look alot better.... think its around 2.5k.
Could you not take your test and get nice little 7.5t?

Ah not stuck an hour "in stone" as such, its just any further is finding someone to check it, but if comes from garage etc can be swayed...

Can do re. 7.5t but it just eats into budget, and everything becomes more exopensive.....

I was looking last year but got equitrek now- never anything when you want it! But dont fret as I have seen loads!

No point in trying manufacturer direct as tend to be newer and obviously out of budget! There is a place called ART horseboxes (look on horsemart) that are Shropshire. They have the old shape Masters and start at about 6k for a N reg ish one.

Think you will have to have a master/movano for a 16h plus as other 3.5t are for ponies!

Good luck!!

Well i'll let Dad know what your looking for incase he heres of anything - he will always check it over for..... we have 5 in total for sale at the moment - as usual everything is for sale!! not sure i'll ever get to keep one!

You can definitely get VWLT35 boxes that are roomy enough to carry big horses, although they will be overweight with 2 on board.

Thanks hon, not too keen re. the transits with Ifor backs purely cos the centre of balance is so high and not so good with a lanky beast!!! But appreciate it, thank you!!

I'm going to be selling my little transit. I've travelled my husbands 18HH on it.

Its also got living on the back. I would be looking at £4,500 on it. She's getting on a bit in years 'D" reg but very unique for a small lorry.

I think MOT due in next month so will sell with 12mnths MOT

Small lorries can be hard to come by we are currently doing our 7 and 1/2 ton lorry up for sale, as we don't have a driver for a 7 1/2 ton lorry. We put it through its last mot and it sat for 11 months before it went a trip to nottingham and back to N. ireland. and its going through another mot and then being sold and will prob stick with a box for mean time as we have a good car to tow it now, and less hassle.

I know, but unfortunately cant drive a trailer and car either, and my car is worth next to nothing, so more cost effective for me to get little box.
