Well that's that then! This morning I was the proud owner of 8 arena mirrors and now I'm the much miffed owner of 5! They have been up a while but I've never known weather like it TBH. They have withstood very strong winds over the years but today's just proved too much. Oh well at least everyone's safe that's the main thing I guess. Was a bit surprised that bits of them shattered and went into the arena surface? Hands and knees job to painstakingly extract all the little pieces but confident I've got them all. Hope everyone else has faired the storm ok?

Can't really offer advice, but how annoying for you !! I'd love to have mirrors at our yard, but today was one of the very few occasions I was quite happy we didn't!
I am so fed up of this rubbish winter weather, roll on spring !

All of the mirrors a friend has came down today. The whole end set structure just tipped over. Some of their fences came down too as well as a tree!

Shame they shattered - didn't think that was supposed to happen?! But well done for getting all the bits up.

Here here! I'm so over it now! I think we faired well compared to a lot of people though luckily. Apart from the mirrors I lost some fencing and roof tiles but that's it. I was just watching the other mirrors very nervously praying they didn't go too. Think we need to try and reinforce them for future. Just can't believe how strong those winds were and hope not to see the like again anytime soon!

Yes I'm very surprised too as they are advertised as being plastic backed so that shouldn't happen. I will be on the phone to mirrors for training first thing tomorrow. Not happy if I'm honest. What a shame for your friend losing all hers:-( at least we still have 5 :-/

They shouldn't shatter, they should be stuck to the backing. Unlucky to lose them but at least nothing/nobody was hurt. I left here in the dark (early and a power cut) after mucking out in the headlights of the car, and sawing my way through two trees across the driveway, and didn't get back again till after dark, so I've no idea what damage we had here. One tree came down across the telephone line and brought down a telegraph pole with it, but we still have wifi so that's ok!

Someone on here had a horse very badly cut by an arena mirror so I would well believe they would shatter into bits...

Hope your other 5 are ok...

Fiona

Sorry to hear that you have lost your mirrors, what a pain!! My friends lost one a few months ago, kicked by a loose horse. My Kevin, he who would not blink at much, simply could not cope at all with the cracked glass or with the empty space that's there now. I'm relegated to the 3/4 line, when a Clydesdale decides something is not on they can be pretty bloody minded about it:D
