Thinking of adding living to my basic horsebox. At the moment it has a tack area and room for 3 large 17hh horses or 4 ponies (comfortably). If I were to encroach on the horse space to create a bigger living space, what would be the minimum space needed for 3 16.2HH horses (in comfort)?

When building ours we were told 3ft width per horse so for 3 horses 9ft from bulk head to ramp. However it does depend if you need to angle any of them.

Will you be ok on the weight if you travel 3 larges horses or is it over a 7.5 ton?

I think the norm is 3 ft each horse but mine is nearly 11ft as I wanted to give them more room.
Ditto the weight question. Most 7.5t with anything more than a very basic day living are probably legally 2 horse, especially big horses.

Thanks for that. Was aiming for 11' or 12' horse space and 6' or 7' living. My truck has a 2 tonne payload. Would be very basic living; Bed, cooker and sink! Maybe a side locker or two.
