Bit of a numpty question but I'm just having a go at doing my floorplan for freestyle test and want to put in a 3 loop serpentine.

So, in a 20x60 arena should the serpentine be the same size as if I was doing it in a 20x40 and I do it somewhere in the middle of the arena (i.e if starting from A on the left rein come off the track after P, across to E and return to the track at R) or should I stretch it out and use the whole arena (i.e left rein from A, come off the track just after F, across to E and then rejoin track just before M).

Cookies if you can make sense of this and help me out!!!!

Thanks

I should use the whole arena, ie 3 x 20m 1/2 circles or it might look very odd.
Of course, being freestyle there's nothing to stop you doing what you want as a serpentine is not a required movement but the test should flow.

Ok, but would I do one of my half 20m circles on the track at A, one across to E and then one back on the track again at C, or do all three half 20m circles across the arena off the track, sort of from V to P, then P to E, then E to R. Sorry this is really confusing!!

OK - if I have got this right (its still early!), I would do it as 3 1/2 circles, so for example starting at A on the left rein ride your 1/2 20, track right, 1/2 20, track left, end up at C. Or, if you want to use it as a change of rein movement, why not do a 4 loop serpentine?!

So I only actually cross the centre of the arena twice? Where would I do my four loops from and to if I did a four loop serpentine, it doesn't make much difference really as its right at the end of my test and I just want to do a 20m circle after the serpentine (allow horse to stretch) and then turn down centre line and halt.

why make it complicated for yourself. Why not just do (as an idea) 2 half 10metre circles at E X B, then do a 20metre circle in the middle to stretch, then centre line.

Thanks, already doing 2 half 10m circles earlier on the test to change rein and they are not one of our strong points so don't want to do another set!!
