Ah thank you! Yes I am so pleased, she's the image of her mother which is fab for me as her mum is the apple of my eye! It's just a shame the mare looks so poor at the moment, as you can see she is giving everything to Indie who looks rather plump and mum is a hatrack! Roll on weaning!

Thanks! She is by Alme Des Nids (sire of Marcolas G, Fox champ 07) x Diamond Rock x King of Diamonds - Although I think she looks more King of Diamonds than her mother and you'd never believe she is only 1/4 RID! She's a chunky monkey

God she is enormous!! I'd be tempted to put her in the stable and feed the mare outside tbth - give the foal something like Foal Aid, or access for a stud paddock lick. What are you feeding the mare? I had similar issues with B when H was at foot and have managed to combat it this time with Outshine and Suregrow!

I've recently changed them over to Simple Systems as I was concerned about a) upping mares feed as she is so poor at the moment but b) Indie growing even more!

They sent me a long email explaining that of the protein in their feed only 50% is absorbed (compared to 100% in cereals, mixes etc) and therefore it shouldn't cause any growth or development problems but should help the mare. I'm still only feeding the mare half of what they recommended as it seemed such a lot!! They said it shouldn't do indie any harm to pick at mums feed either.

It's such a difficult balance, some people say just feed the mare but my vet and farrier said to do it this way and concentrate on her after weaning...Everyone tells me something different!!

She just gets a tiny slop dolop of lucie nuts in her bowl but TBH isn't interested in the food, more just pinching what mum has got! Other than that she doesn't get anything other than grass (average quality) and hay (good quality). If I feed her suregrow won;t that encourage her to grow even more as she gets literally nothing at the moment?

LOL - a misleading name eh! I used to think that, but no, it really shouldn't do! It's a balancer and provides the vits/mins needed for correct bone growth (in utero as well) and milk production.

If they were mine this is what I would do:

Feed them separately
Feed the mare Alfalfa, Suregrow and Outshine
Allow the foal some Suregrow, but if not really interested then use Bailey’s Foal Assist

That said, I totally understand what you mean about all the differing advice and opinions available.

I bought a monster last year. He's now 14 months old almost, I measured him for a rug the other day and to my horror he needs a 6'6". My 15.2 andalusian and my 15.1 show cob only wear 6'3" rugs! he is a very beautiful monster but I fear when fully grown I may need to purchase a Stannah stair lift to get on him. I think he will be 17hh my friend reckons he will be much more! HELP!

LOL, My 16hh Tycoon mare is a 6ft and my 16.2 (and I think she's taller as she was measured at 3) Charley Chaplin mare is a 6ft 3....

16.3 mare who is built like a tank is a 6ft6.
