For hunting I have purchased a 3 ring waterford gag (tried in a full cheek waterford last year and my arms are still about a foot longer than they should be!!) and I plan to use 2 reins, one on the snaffle ring and then one on the bottom ring as a handbrake for emergencies (but loose contact at all other times).
What I am wondering is, is it best to use the 2nd rein on the bottom ring or will the middle one be sufficient? Would roundings be worth trying or would that stop the action I am after? She is ok when waiting, it’s just when cantering/galloping, she just goes into tank mode!
I also have a martingale which will be on the snaffle rein!!!

Try it & see (with the 2 reins) roundings would nul & void what you are after!

You can try which ever ring you want as if possible you could always hop of in a quite moment to change if not what you wanted?

I hunt with my roundings on my gag and have a good result, two reins would be ideal but I am normaly too drunk to handle them. If you do need to take a pull it feels a lot less sharp then if you just have one rein but effective still!
