A few peolpe have been asking me for updates on my new pony so i thougt i would do a quick(
) report as i had a fab lesson on him yesterday.
He's had a couple of grid lessons now, when i got him 3 weeks ago he had cantered to about 1m but just one upright by itself plus little oxers etc but never seen 2 in a row. I'm a big believer in intoducing new and interesting things as you go along so they never have to suddenly learn about fillers etc. Started with a little grid and did bounces for the 1st time, just popping through so sweetly
. Put jump blocks and flower pots etc under the poles which he totally ignored!!
Then we decided to canter to him to a few little things and build a litle course for the first time. He was so brilliant, seems to have such a great attitude. 1st time he did our scary white fillers he jumped them really big and then next time round completely normally. We showed him the planks and tiny brush fillers last week for 1st time and was expecting him to look a little again this time but you'd have though he'd seen them a million times, just popped over.
Most satisfying thing was a litlle related we set up on 3 strides, plank in to little oxer. Was a little long in so made the distance very short, i sat quietly as i really want him to learn to think for himself....hence crashing though oxer
. Gave him a little pat and came back round, same jump in but he backed himself off and popped out
So i'm thrilled with him, did 2'3-2'6 so nicely by end. We also got the little water trays out and popped them from trot then canter....one big jump and then completely fine!!
I know it's long self indulgant one but i'm just so pleased. I spent so long banging my head against the wall with T, who would spook at the plank she's jump a trillion times for no reason just if she felt like it one day. So it's so so so nice to feel like i'm getting somewhere
He's the type it'd be easy to rush i think and wack up the jumps too quikly but determined not to.....going to first little local show next week to do a couple of little classes then watch out Pulborough Training class in october!!!
