My 3 yr old was out yesterday running around and having a good old time! Today her leg is swollen and she doesn't want to put weight on it. I picked it out too see if she picked up a rock or something. Nothing. She has a tendency to exaggerate. But obviously somethings wrong if it is swollen. What do I do? I am going to hose it off here shortly. I put her out too see if she gets moving around it might go down a little. This mare is problematic!

If there is swelling and she's not putting any weight on, I'd be getting the vet pronto.

Meanwhile while waiting, I'd cold hose, box rest and if it's going to be longer than a day for the vet to come out for what ever reasons, then I'd be offering some bute if you had some to hand or a fellow livery did, to offer some short term pain relief.

Hope it's nothing serious.

Sounds like you need the vet pronto but I'm afraid I disagree with giving bute until prescribed. The vet will need to be able to assess the horses problem without having to second-guess just how lame they are without the effects of an owner administered dose of painkiller. Hope she's okay.

I called the vet he said to cold hose it and poultice it at night. Give it some time and if he needs to come out then he will. She probably twisted it when she was carrying on and then me locking her up at night didn't help because she couldn't move around like outside. I turned her out and have been hosing it. I will poultice again tonight and if no change the vet will be here.
It was windy here on Sunday and she was ripping around here like she was at the track again.

Change your vet!

Poultice WHAT? Her foot? The swelling? - which is not necessarily where the injury is.

If your horse has tweaked a tendon then turning her out and allowing her to stretch it again could be the worst thing for it. If she has a hairline fracture turning her out could cause an irrecoverable full break (it happened to a friend's horse). He should have come out to see it before prescribing what you should do with it.

Alsiola is a vet, by the way. You need a different one than the one you have got.
