I am hoping to get a 4x4 this year (hopefully), so I can take my horses out to lots of fun shows and things! I have two small horses, both together weigh under 900kg, so I need a vehicle strong enough to pull them and a trailer (haven't got the trailer yet but will probably look for an Ifor or a Bateson, but don't want something too huge as I am 24 so insurance will probably be high!

Would you guys mind telling me what you tow with, what weight it can tow and roughly how much it costs to tax and insure? An info would be really appreciated thankyou

Hiya i have a landrover Freelander as an every day car but they are not really to be used to tow as they are not heavy enough to make breaking safe. I see alot tow with them round us but its not advisable!! I use our mutsubishi Warrior to tow with that is great it doesn't even notice the trailer on the back. Only down side is that it is very long with trailer on back. Discovery's are also a good towing vehical.

I tow 2 big horses (1200kg between them) and a big heavy trailer. Total weight is about 2.4 ton.
We tow with a P reg disco 300 tdi. copes brilliantly even with our hills.

cost us £2k to buy, £185 (i think) to tax, and £250 to insure (i'm 28 and OH is 30)

My only problem with it is the electrics aren't great.

Me too. I've had 2 but I share a horsebox with a friend now so I sold it last year. There the most economical of all the 4x4's and are built to go on forever. I towed my heavy rice trailer and two horses all over the northwest and it never struggled. I was sad to see it go. I love dmy truck

Just depends how much money you have. If your looking for luxury then buy a range rover, if your looking for something to do the job well that isn't brand new then get yourself a fourtrak.

A Disco. Ours is one of the old style (prefer it to the new ones). Tows 3.5 tonne and tows it very well. Diesel. Comfy enough for the miles I do (a lot!), though a lot of wind noise, which is annoying; I had to get a new hands free phone kit!

We have just bought a big three horse trailer and we'll be able to have it fully loaded and still be okay

Toyota Landcruiser 3.0TD, it can tow 2.8 tonnes & doesn't even seem to notice the trailer on the back

. You can get a Landcruiser Amazon that will tow 3.5 tonnes but it is 4.2 litres so quite juicy.

I have the smaller Landcruiser (3.0TD) and this is my third one. The 1st one had done 240,000 miles when I sold it, the 2nd had done 180,000 and the one I have now has done 70,000. Never had a problem with any of them and they have all sailed through their MOT's 1st time.
