Hey,
Haven't posted here in a few years but thought I'd do a update and try and keep logged in! Back in 2012 my lovely mare was diagnosed with severe laminitis and rotated pedal bones. She had extensive boxrest, remedial shoeing and barefoot rehab. Eventually moved to an amazing yard with the perfect set up for her (grass free pen made for her!) and taken on by one of the best remedial Farrier's in the area. She was once lame on 4 Bute a day, she's now completely sound (although little stiff but she's 30 next year!) on no Bute at all and still does a little ride out on the fields occasionally. Honestly without the support of this forum I would have been so lost with her treatment back in 2012, the knowledgable laminitis and barefoot members were incredible.

Impressive recovery, especially as her age. She looks wonderful and it sounds like you gave her everything she needed.
On my yard we have a lovely 25yo pony who was almost pts for lami a few years ago and is now hacking soundly across the flint tracks!

It was such hard work MissTyc! Emotionally draining, it completely took over my life...but worth i feel now. I was living away at uni with her for my first year and it was just horrid so far from home with such an ill horse. That's really good to hear about that horse on your yard, it's horrid especially when they are that bit older, a lot of people didn't think K would recover and thought it would be best to PTS.

Thanks Porkchop! It was defo an interesting case, she never ever lost her little spark, even with all that pain. Then I moved yards back home and our yard owner was just fantastic with helping her and me.

It's so great to read this
Well done for getting her through it and for now wanting to help other people

It has been around one year now since my mare started to feel better after laminitis, and I know just how difficult and heart wrenching it can be. But it was worth everything to see her so well now :-D

Thank you for posting - nice to hear a success story, we are just starting our 'journey' with this and this is just the kick up the bum I needed to stay positive

I too haven't posted on here for years but now my mare is going through laminitis yet again and so I found myself here 😔 Having done everything I should have to prevent it or so I thought. Your post gives me some hope for my mare who is 20 now. X

That's a lovely photo of an old horse with the best of care.
