Hi,
I know this is normal, but just wanted some opinions. Do people keep riding youngsters when they are loosing their teeth? My boy seems a little reluctant to move forwards, which is not like him, and I think it must be pain related, so was thinking about giving him some time off.

Thanks

Mine was teething last year - started kicking out, rearing, spinning etc so I personally stopped riding after speaking to my vet and dentist (he had 8 teeth coming through). I did lots of work on long lines schhooling, jumping an dhacking out.

If they are reacting against the pain then all you may do it make them learn that riding=pain as they don't realise the pain is due to the teeth.

I have lots of horses who are around this age and no I don't stop riding them however if their teeth are moving about a fair bit then I will just pop them in a hackamore or ride them in a rope halter until things settle down.
