I know this seems mad.... but I worry like mad every time my horse transport is due for its MOT!!

Over the years I've had various ancient cars and horseboxes. This one definately falls into that category.

Last year it failed on a huge number of things which cost the earth to repair.

Really, my 4WD should've been sent to the knackers, but it still looks good on the outside and runs well on the inside.... I don't want to replace it!

Several years ago I had a little Transit lorry that failed its MOT every time. At the last knockings, it failed twice, even after repair!!! The MOT testing station seemed to gather all their staff into the office to stand and ridicule me about how I should roll it off a cliff, or that they could get someone to 'burn it for me' so I could claim on the insurance!!

Ooh.... I've never been back to that garage since!

I now have a lovely mechanic who will take my car to the test centre, service and repair it, and tells me not to worry.... but I can't help it.

My horse 'wheels' are the difference between having blimin great fun, or being bored stiff riding up and down the road!!

Does anyone else get in a panic at this time of the year??!!

I am with you on this one!

My trusty Daihatsu aka 'Dirty D' has just had her MOT, i prepare for the worse and anything better is a bonus!

I took her in to the garage and they rung to say i could collect her, i actually stuttered and stammered and asked them to repeat it, he said again i could collect her as she had passed! Bless her cotton socks, she's M reg so she's 15 years old and she flew through (well she has a few advisorys so not exactly flown through but to me she has!)

I had a fiesta (Betty Blue, as you can see i like my car names!) as my first car and i remember being at my friends when they rung me to tell me she had failed (major welding) and i remember my boyfriend at the time walking past her house with his friends and i just ran out crying, i think they thought something really bad had happened!

Apparently all of this makes me a bit of a girl but hey ho!

Dirty_D... mine is also a Daihatsu... a couple of years older than yours.

I've had it for 7yrs..... I want to make it to at least 10yrs!!!

Mine is in for its MOT tomorrow - and I have an oil leak. I know it needs new pads, disks, some brake pipes and possibly rubbers. :(

Way I look at it is MOT is all about it being safe, so it's best to know it's safe and just swallow hard on the bill.

I gave up on my lorry - £1000 two years running for MOT - just was crazy.

Nope- not alone:D

My 15 yo Disco had its done in Feb..... the mechaninic rang to say ''theres good news, and theres bad......''

Good news- mechanically sound, everything passed. Bad news- certain parts of it were as robust as a doyley. Cue large amounts of welding...new boot floor + very large bill, but he says it should be fine for about another 5 years.

By which time I will have won the lottery.

I worried about mine when it went in a few weeks ago and I was right to be worried, I have a list of recommendations as long as my arm that need to be done. But TBH for a 6 yo pickup that gets abused, its the first time i've had recommendations so cant be doing too badly.

No, this is good. Get all those things done asap. It will help keep your vehicle reliable. This is what preventative maintenance is all about. If I take a vehicle in for an MOT and they find absolutely nothing I worry that they are not looking hard enough.

It pays to pick your garage though so you don't get ripped off. Four years ago I took my then 4 year old car for its MoT to a very local garage. They failed it on its emissions telling me that it needed a (very expensive, of course) squibnocket but that they'd "tweaked it for now" so it would pass; they also gave me an advisory note re the rear shock absorbers. . . . . . . . . . . . I didn't get anything done about any of them and was almost physically sick when I had to take the car for its MoT the following year as I really, really did not have the money to get the (supposedly needy) work done. I took the car back to the main dealer that I had bought it from for its MoT and waited with fear and trembling for their report. They told me that it had failed . . . . . on a faulty brake light (which they had replaced)!!!!! I told them about the report from the garage the previous year and showed them the paperwork. Apparently there was nothing wrong with the emissions thingy at all and they informed me that they'd had umpteen bad reports of aforementioned garage before about ripping people off. They reckon they would have charged me an arm and leg but not actually done anything.

My car (not the 4x4) is seriously worrying me. Bloody thing has broken several times this year and cost me almost as much as its worth to repair!! I still have £500 worth of garage bills waiting for me to pay at home :( :( :( And it's overdue for a service, AND its due tax which is even more money, AND AND AND my damn car insurance made me pay an extra £20 because I changed address and apparently I'm now in a more "dodgy" area (even though it brought DOWN my boyfriends insurance - wtf?!). I HATE CARS. Rant over.

Anyone want a nice little car??? lol
