4yo Potential BE

Hi not been on here for ages and could do with some help.
I have a 4yo BWB by Brief encounter that has not made the size I had hoped (15.1) he is 3/4 brother to a good horse called Jimmy Shoo that is with Phoebe Buckley .My dilemma is he is not something that I wish to compete myself (due to size) but feel he could have a big future.
He has been backed last summer and got out and about a bit.

In an Ideal world I would like to keep him and find a rider that would take him on.I would be prepared to make a contribution to running cost by paying for bits and pieces ie shoeing etc.I would also pick up the BE running cost.However due to running other horses I cannot justify paying another pro rider with all the costs involved.I am not expecting a rider to do this for nothing and would expect to come to some arrangement over equity in the horse in exchange.I also realise the rider would need the experience to do this so would be carefully vetted
Are riders prepared to do this ? What should I be offering?
My other option is to sell if so whats he worth? and would I be better off doing this?

Rosiefan would love to send your way as Rosie was going to have one of my other horses a while back but because of other horse commitments I cannot spend much on this .In some ways I wish I had not bought it in the first place but everyone out of this mare has done well I just hoped it would grow and it will .I hoped maybe I could give somebody an opportunity who could not afford one and a bit of support thrown in.The sale option is open to me although I dont have to, but the horse needs to be doing something.

I am in a similar position to you, too big to compete my mare (and too windy!). I also have a horse to compete and sell. I've found a very good and keen rider near Wantage, based at Henrietta Knight's yard. He's going to ride mine for a reasonable keep cost plus any expenses, such as entries, farrier, vet etc. Considering the facilities that are there, I think that it is good value. PM if you want more details. Heres a clip of him riding my very inexperienced horse, the first time he'd ever sat on him. I really rate him.

Where are you? I am at Emily taggarts yard in surrey and she might be interested. She specialises in producing on event babies so we have a LOT of 4 and 5 year olds on the yard. Ones that are ready do off to BYEH as well. Thanks to her I felt confident in buying a just backed 5 year old earlier this year who is now going really well. Emiy does have a really nice quiet way with babies, her last somewhat sharp and ultra tricky 4 year old won his first dressage test yesterday! pm if you want more info etc. as for references, she trains with Jon Pitts and Christinr Thundry, just started with Lucinda Fredericks and her vet is sending her a horse now as well so they would not be a problem.

And just a thought ..but at 4 I would expect him to grown more, particularly as having Brief Emcounter/jumbo would mean a dose of ID..what size did you want him to get to,?

otherwise, I would give Alex Postolowsky a call, I know a couple of people who have had a horse with her and she's a v v nice (and little) rider, they've been v pleased.
also as above, i'd expect more growth, for another 3 years, i'd be amazed if he finishes at 15.1...

Cundlegreen this is only my opinion but I would be really upset with that rider. That horse is there to be educated and though the rider is a lovely rider I would want to throttle them for the way they approached things. I am not shy about horses being educated over solid fences as have done it with one of mine who was useless over SJs when learning to jump but hurdlers are tricky to re-educate and they need the opposite approach to what was done. They need to learn to pop, use their back and not land stiffly.

^^^ must admit I agree with that. i think the horse needs to be trotting or even walking in until it learns to bascule, to bend its back in the air. it's honest and doing its best but you can see it doesn't have a clue how to use itself, it jumps purely like a hurder...

The vid actually says that he looks lame in places as he pulled a shoe and the stones coming out of the water made him a bit footy! So there is a sensible explanation there...

While I agree that the horse is not jumping in a good shape, he is jumping in a way that he has used, probably for some time, and may well be inclined to stick with. If he had been rushing and been dangly in front then I would say that he should have come back to trot and worked on his style more. However, to let the horse see some different fences and assess his reactions, then that is a different exercise. From what I could see, the horse was in a quiet rhythm and willing to do what was asked. We are only shown a tiny part of the session so it may well be that the horse finds jumping from trot very difficult - a strong possibility given that he hasn't yet learnt to use himself - in which case canter was the obvious choice.
It is quite bold to criticise the boy when you don't know what his brief was, whether he was under instruction or what he did before and after the 2 minute video. I am sure that with the facilities and guidance available to him he will work on the horse in a constructive way to improve the horse's suppleness and athletic ability.

I did not realise this post had been hijacked! It does not help me sort out my dilemma when you start talking about another horse and what it may have wrong with it.

Thanks K I know he will grow a bit more.He is potentially a juniors horse down the line but they dont want them till their 8-9 and been there and done that. I bought him under different circumstances and now find myself unable to finance another!!! horse eventing.I could sell today but not to somewhere that will explore his full potential and I am thinking of him and what I saw in a scruffy 2yo.
