My mare has slightly squint legs. She is sound on all surfaces, out 24/7, hacked about three times a week and a lesson once a week at the moment due to the weather.

At the beginning

Its amazing to see the new hoof start to grow in as it should be. Such a difference as the flare grows it. Her new feet will be dinky once they're finished!

I always wished Id taken before and after pictures of Tobys feet. He'd spend 5yrs on soft soggy ground then started doing an awful lot of road work almost over night (no school so he was broken hacking and his temperament meant he needed months of inhand work first). He had decent feet to start with but soft, thin.and 'unused' looking. His new wall grew in almost twice the thickness, and a much tighter, smoother appearance, that he actually had a ledge grow down his foot.

How long was it till she was sound over all surfaces? And what do you feed? (just comparing notes with my chap were 6 weeks in ) :)

She had a short period of being footy on hardcore (ie really stoney stuff) and I bought some cavallos for the fronts. I'm not exactly sure how far in that was but in actual fact I have only used the boots 3 or 4 times. That may change when her work load increases of course. My hacking is all Tarmac and forestry, no soft stuff at all.

She is fed 2kgs cool stance copra, 600g m. Linseed, 500g fast fibre. I have recently started mag ox and limestone flour and dropped speedi beet. Oh and adlib hay and a chelated rockie mineral lick.

I think you can see a small event line when I changed from linseed oil to m linseed.

The utter joy of hacking out in deep snow, ice and never needing to worry about a lost shoe is such a good feeling!

It's very interesting isn't it. I showed the pics to cptrayes early on and she predicted a much smaller foot when she is finished and she has been spot on.

I bought her in October last year and her feet were over grown and flat as well as badly flared (unfortunately I too didn't take pics at the very beginning). She had been out of work for a good while and previous to that had been backed and schooled for 6 weeks and was shod then.

Having read a bit on here, Rockley blog and because of her squint legs I decided to let her create her own feet, they have never been touched since I bought her. I think this was the right thing to do for her.

What is the waves line all about and will it eventually go away? I know the worst bit is going to grow fairly soon but her foot still is waves just not as much?
