5 stage vetting bloods

You normally have to ask the vet to take bloods (at least I did). If the horse is doped etc, then changes character, you then get them tested as necessary, or you can ask for testing immediately which will show up infection and so forth. Depends what you want.

Hmmm im not sure what to do for the best now. I thought they tested the blood and that was part of the point of a 5 stage.

Nope, 5 stage does riding and respiration, thorough physical exam, flexion tests, exercise and rest breathing, notes any lumps and bumps. Having bloods taken is standard, testing it is extra.

It depends on if you need a 5 stage for the insurance. You could just go for a 2 stage, but then some things might not be noticed. It all hangs on the value of the horse and the peace of mind you want. I wanted peace of mind, so went for a 5 stage as the horse was a 'lifetime' horse, not something I was going to just keep for a while. Some people also go for x-rays, but this can get very expensive.

How old is the horse and what has it done? Some horses may have been worked hard and if it has done a lot of jumping, you might want to look at the legs more closely than a 5 stage offers, depending on what you plan to do with it. A horse doesn't so much fail a 5 stage but must be suitable for the purpose for which you want it.

I've just had a 2 stage vetting on my loan with a view to buy and the vet took blood to store but I've asked for it to be checked anyway, it's £50 for a screening on it.

I'd rather a 5 stage, as like you this is a horse for life hopefully :)
The horse is 7 and has mainly been used for hacking which is what i'll be doing mainly.
