Hi my horse is going to be 5 star vetted and he has possible sarcoids, will he fail? He passed a 2star with me 9 months ago and they were just mentioned but vet saw no reason not to buy him.

He he is being vetted to become a police horse if this helps at all.

Thank you :-)

The purchasers should have already spoken to the vet regarding the sarcoids, it is not whether it passes or fails but whether it is found to be fit for purpose, I would guess as it has been assessed by a professional they may well have decided that it is a risk they are prepared to take if everything else is ok. The vet is likely to look at them first before proceeding with the rest of the vetting, if he is really concerned he may stop at that point but as I said it is more than likely that they have discussed them and will go ahead.

Do you mean 5 STAGE vetting?

If so, there will be five stages to his vetting and the vet will consider whether he will be capable of performing the tasks that would be required of him by the purchaser. So long as the sarcoids do not interfere with him being ridden, then he should be fine. Obviously not for showing, but most other things he should be ok. The vet will note that there are sarcoids on the vetting certificate. This will mean that they will probably be excluded on any insurance policy that is taken out.

as above vettings aren't pass or fail they are a list of observations the vets makes about the horse on the day, a vetting with nothing mentioned at all I'd imagine is pretty rare.
It's then down to the purchaser and vet to decide. in their judgemental professional opinion, if the observations will impact what the purchaser wants to do with the horse. One vets judgement could easily be different to the next (unless of course horse is hopping lame or similar)

It might be polite to discuss with the purchaser first so they can discuss with their vet before the call out is incurred, some people will be very anti sarcoids others won't mind if they have been there for a while and nowhere tack/ rugs might rub.
