5yo tb retraining

Hi!
so barry is going to be starting his retraining soon and I was wondering how far to go with him? He’s bum high and still growing so don’t want to push him
he’s been raced
Just spent our time in the arena yesterday lunging and letting him figure out what poles were by sniffing and trotting over them
Want to produce him for show jumping
If anyone has any tips

Tbs are very willing and able, they love to learn, but they will tell you when they have had enough. Id start with groundwork , long reigning etc

As above and plenty of hacking if you can. It will keep his brain interested, help to build non racing muscles and allow you to get to know him.

You certainly can pick up the theory from YouTube, but you’ll learn more effectively by paying a good pro to teach you and the horse. Very easy to overbend them.

I agree- long reining is one thing I really think needs to be expertly done. Get soemone in to show you properly, it is an art form and it's very quick to go wrong if you don’t get the set up right

I was just going to do some basic long reining like this? Wasn’t going to add the side reins as seemed complicated ?

You may find he knows all about it. Lots are long reined early on.
