6 months in - how do you think we're doing?

Hi all

Well I've owned Florabella for 6 months now. When I first started riding her - a friend arranged for me to have lessons on her after a nasty riding accident meant I had to have knee surgery and my two boys were PTS within 6 months of each other - I wasn't enamoured with her. I thought her shy, a bit boring and VERY bouncy to ride. I carried on having lessons and a month later had her on a months trial at her owners yard as he'd offered her to me for sale. She was a head not a heart purchase. She was everything I said I wanted (expected for being a bay TB mare but she couldn't help that) but I was convinced I'd never love her like I did the boys.

Well we're 6 months in... and a lot has changed. She's changed my life. She isn't boring or dull - but I've had to earn her trust and I still don't have it 100%. She rewards quietness and leadership and is teaching me not only to be a better rider but a better person - calmer, more paitent, kinder and softer....

So enough of the boring bits how do you think we're doing?!

My riding is still very much a work in process - I hadn't ridden much for two years before I started lessons on her, and my knee has meant there have been some issues - but as one of my best friends said when she travelled from Kent to Surrey - this is the horse I've waited my whole life to own.

CC welcome on her condition and my riding - though be kind I'm working hard at being good enough for her!!

Thanks and some homemade flapjack the OH just made for all...

I'd say you are doing fantastically, both of you. You look so comfortable together and it sounds like she came to you for a reason. To help to mend a broken heart and teach you more about your horsemanship and yourself. Lovely thread and really enjoyed seeing your photos. Congratulations on your 6 months together, here's to many more happy times.

She looks lovely to me seems that you are getting on well now and you can see improvement in the pics. She looks to be in good condition espec for a TB at this time of year in my opinion!
Well done and enjoy her!! Dont put yourself down with your riding just carry on learning!!
You both look very happy!

Aw thank you both... we had a weight blip just before Christmas where she went from ok to seriously skinny in 3 days... never knew that could happen... but now have her on a new feed regime and I hope she's doing better.

Feeling much more comfortable on her now - going to try some Interdressage at home before taking her out as I don't like riding in front of people at the moment - worry they're going to wonder what and idiot like me is doing riding a horse like her... but she came to me for a reason of that I am sure...

RE her breeding:
Sire Name Alflora (IRE)
Dam Name Annabel's Baby (IRE)

I know very little about bloodlines though.

We are bonding slowly - like two divorcees in their first relationship - edging round each other not wanting to be the first to say the L word...

I love that phrase, sums up the relationship I have with my boy, some days I think he loves me, other days I think he is freaked out by me and I'm being too clingy! She looks lovely, very honest x

It's a funny old thing bonding with a new horse esp. In these circumstances but she's a star and totally honest just got home from an amazing hack on her grinning from ear to ear!!

Can't believe how lucky I am!
