absolutely heartbroken, new horse was ment to arrive today along with big dreams big ambitions to event, was so happy to find a loan horse that I could do big things on ect as buying one would be far too expensive and so on.
but for the past couple of weeks she has had a couple of bouts of colic, first time we think "oh ok we can deal with that" but this morning day she was ment to arrive we had a phone call saying how she had another bout of colic, alarm bells started ringing and I have decided to listen to my head and not heart not to have her as gut instinct is telling me that there is an underlying issue, and don't want to get her and having to be worrying about colic.. and yesterday had yard owner with no clue how to yard own was being an a*se also about new horse.. I really don't think I will be able to find a new horse on loan that I am able to do the things I want to do on :-(
someone please give me a kick up the bum and tell me it is the right thing to do and that there is something out there for me..
sorry about horrible thread just had to open up..

It's the right thing to do. For a start the horse needs to stay in their current location and not be transported ATM. And you are right, recurrent colic is a big concern.

There will be something out there for you.

Bummer, how sad for the horse and owner and dissapointing for you. Its best horse doesnt move and I wouldnt want to take on something with recurrent colic. Fingers crossed there is something out there for you.

That's so disappointing but definitely best decision all round. Hope the horse recovers well and you find yourself another one soon, don't give up x

You have certainly made the right decision - horse needs someone who knows them to try and deal with the colic, moving could be detrimental for it and you dont want to taek on a klnmown problem.

There are some lovely horses for loan out there - I posted just yesterday to say how brilliant my new loan boy is. Have a look on the Pony Club website thats whereni found him - there are horses as well as ponies.

So far we have done unaffiliated dressage, hunter trials and ODE and won rosettes in all of them! Also done trec training session where he was a real star - dropping his head like a pro in the canter for the low branches exercise. He hack, loads, is a good doer, shoes stay on and is pleasant to look at! (down side is he is 17.1hh and grey - but I am not complaining)

Dont worry - you will find the right horse for you. Try horses4homes as well.

Could be teeth, could be worms, could be not enough water intake, dirty water in field. Hope owners finds the problems, horses dont colic for nothing.

Maybe talk to owner.
There could be a reason.
Yes you might better of not taking this horse on but also you need to be sure you won't be missing out if you say no without checking thoroughly.

Go to a different yard if your current one isn't good and not suitable.

Oh dear, how disappointing for you. However, as wise other posters have pointed out, probably All For The Best. Poor pony needsvto remain with current carers to sort out colic. Not a good prospect if you wld always be worrying if she was going to have another attack.
Hope you find some other lovely horse soon: don't worry about YO - be generous and decide she was having an "off day"!
