It is such a fabulous day isn't it? Wish the weather was a bit better! We are based at Coningsby and later a group of us are having a big 65 BBQ! They have been practising all week over our house and it's a wonderful wonderful sight. Looking forward to it!
We live near RAF Coningsby and it's always great to see the planes from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight go over, especially the Lancaster. What a great and very moving tribute to the Dambusters.
My grandfather was a Navigator on Lancs in the war - wish I had asked him more about it, but what has been graet for my Dad is that my RAF pilot OH has been able to go through his logbook with my Dad and explain it all to him, what means what etc.
both my maternal grand father and my father worked for BAC/RR/BAE
My grandfather, during WW2 missed being killed in a bunker blast because he'd swopped shifts with anohter worker, who, unfortunately, was killed at BAE in a direct hit on a workers bunker..it could of been my GD...
My father worked on Concorde...IMO THE finest Aircraft EVER to grace the skies........
EXCEPT........
the SPITFIRE/LANCASTER.......and of course...........................................................................................
the VULCAN........
fantastic and most of all DISTINCTIVE aircraft of the 20th century........
the RAF ROCK........
As do ALL our ARMED FORCES!!!!
we appreciate your sacrifices, Lads....
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!
Vulcan is wonderful and was my Fav. along with Harriers and Eurofighter (have to show loyalty to my husband lol!) Luckily the Vulcan flew into Coningsby a week or so ago and we all sat on the runway edge with our ear defenders on...that thing makes the most beautiful sound! Agree Jellybaby! They all do a great job. Have to say a big three cheers and especially at this time for Mr. Woolly who leaves for the desert for 4 months this week and anybody elses OH who is away/due to go.
Some great coverage on PPrune.
Hoping to see it at RIAT as OH (oooooh, or hubby as he will be by then!!!!) is due to bring a jet down that weekend and I will meet him there- better pack the ear plugs!
I find most jets noisy, esp when the noise gets 'into' your chest, but I reckon the vulcan is something else!
Spot on!!!! In your chest is the best way to call it! Really shakes it. I used to love it when all the car alarms went off!Woolly has a lovely picture of her in the cockpit of one. Lucky baggins!
Ohhhh might see you at RIAT then!
