7.5 ton lorry test

I can't recommend one in your area sorry, but if you're forking out for you 7.5T you might as well do your Class 2 HGV...v similar price - it's something to add to your CV and you never know when it'll come in handy.

I agree but having had friends who have failed the hgv exam a few times at massive cost ive been told the 7.5 test has a better pass rate

There's absolutely no difference - you have to do exactly the same things in both tests, and I don't find the lorry I drove in my test any different to my lorry I drive now (which is 7.5 tonne).

I did the Class C licence for just the reasons described above, a decent place should be able to teach you regardless. All test centres have to publish their pass/fail rates now, so you should be able to find them on the DSA website (somewhere!)

If you can do the LGV C then do, as you will be able to drive pretty much any size and it is stupidly expensive to do the C1 then the C separately. Also there aren't that many decent places that do the C1 (up to 7.5 ton)...or there aren't near me anyway. I had to do the C1 because i am diabetic, but i live in Guildford and had to go up to near Wembly for training (because mainly ambulance drivers doing the training, so not huge demand). If you can get there (NW10) then i can highly recommend Wallace School of Transport, esp Paul Murphy, got me through my test yesterday with 11 hours of training...although apparently that is VERY tight! I think the main thing is to find a decent instructor
