Looking as if I may have sold my lovely lil 3.5 lorry

and am looking at 7.5 tonners - yes, passed my test before 97. Wondered which is mechanically best and parts readily available for?

I had an F Reg Cargo 811 previously, but parts were increasing difficult to get hold of, and as I would only be looking at an older lorry which do you guys reccommend?

I was thinking of a Leyland Roadrunner or is the DAF better?

Any advice appreciated.

Mine is a Volvo and goes well. Avoid old Ford lorries as the parts are hard to come by now (Ford scrapped their spare parts stock 10 years after they sold thgeir truck business and the new owners Iveco are not bothered about old vehicles).

I was advised to get a Leyland, and I love mine (which is a DAF) - if you can get one with a turbo and an air clutch as the difference is well worth it! Cannot remember being told that roadrunner was preferable to DAF (or vice versa).

We have just had a box built on a DAF 45. We had Cargos before, but they do tend to rust out. The DAF is great (it is newer than a Leyland Roadrunner) and has air suspension as well. Priory Stud (who did our box) are using mainly DAFs now as they are so good to drive and are reliable.

I just bought an N reg Iveco and parts are readily available on e-bay!! It drives really nice, has a six litre engine and 150bhp, so plenty of power for carrying weight.
It needs some bits finishing off, but so far am really pleased with it.
