Hi, I have an Old Ford Iveco lorry 7.5t 1995, it went in for some weld work and cost me over 5.5k in repairs, it was then put through its MOT & passed no advisories last year, however upon collecting it, my speedo wasn’t working, rev count working as it should but speed gauge not showing what speed the lorry is travelling at, it is now due its MOT again and I am worried it may fail due to the speedo not working, all lights working on dash and other gauges just not the speed, will this be checked on its MOT & will it be a major fail

I have also had a qualified HGV mechanic look at it, he’s said fuses are all fine, and taco link to gearbox is fine so unsure what is causing the problem

The speedo on my 7.5t hasn't worked for years and it's never failed the mot so hopefully yours will be ok!

I had a 1995 iveco with this same problem. Do you have a cardboard taco disc in it? This normally solved the problem for me! At times, it could still be temperamental so I found turning it off, opening the taco unit, closing it again and then turning it back on sometimes worked too!

I had this. It was if it was moving when the tacho was opened and closed. I think the thing that moved the needle was behind a pin or something. I just stopped, turned off, opened the tacho and closed it again.

Quick fix.

Another who found that opening and closing the tacho got the speedo working again. Before I discovered this it went through the MOT without any problem.

I also had this as my speedo suddenly stopped functioning and as others have said, it was a tacho issue. I cannot remember exactly what the mechanic did to fix the problem as it was quite some time ago but I know it cost me £500! The vehicle will definitely fail its test if the speedo is found to be not functioning but obviously it may not be noticed. However driving without an operative speedo I found to be most concerning and may negate your insurance cover so do explore a resolution. Honestly what costs we endure to transport our horses but of course as we all know, they are entirely worth it! 😀
