Hi everyone, just wondered if any of you have heard that from next year, everyone, regardless of how long you have been driving your lorries, will have to take the theory test? Obviously this will not apply to those who have taken the test already to be able to drive a 7.5 t or an HGV, only thise of us who have been driving them for years on 'grannies rights'? God I hope not, I have no chance of passing that theory test and not because I'm a rubbish driver or don't understand the Highway Code, I'm just rubbish with computers but have been driving though for over 30 years without incident EVER, but apparently this makes no difference. Can anyone tell me if this is true as I'm in a right old flap about it especially as we have a new lorry being built as I type!

I have just looked on the DVLA website to check the categories on my licence, and it still says I can drive a 7.5t lorry until 2047. There is nothing on there to say I will have to take a test....I have heard the rumours, but I'm not convinced they're true....?

I can't find anything to suggest this is happening? Where did you hear about it? I know the law is changing regard CPC's and driving for a living, which involves a theory element but that's only if you drive for a living. And also the randfather rights for being able to drive up to 7.5te were taken away about 5+yrs ago, unless the person doing the chaperoning had actually taken the specific C(1) test, rather than inheriting the right through age/pass date.

I belong to the biggest trucker site in the UK and if anything like this was in the wind then it would have been mentioned there especially as many LGV trainers are also on that site so - it has to be a myth

This is the news I was hoping for thank you! I was talking to a lady yesterday at a show and she was convinced it was happening next year (2015) I also couldn't see anything on the DVLA website which is why I thought I would check on here. I thought it was quite plausible tbh as I know our governments just love to dream up new ways to screw us for more money all the time!

My licence says I have the permissions to drive 7.5 T on Grandfather rights for another 40 odd years. I can't see how DVLA could expect to impose a test on me when they have already given me the rights to drive that type of vehicle anyway.

Just mentioned this to a guy at work who is an Army Reservist and has to have special test to drive something above ususal on a licence. He said a few years ago the renewal form had a tick box to retain rights and some people he is a reservist with missed it out and lost rights, therefore having to sit tests. The form no longer has this box.

Maybe this is the source of the woman's confusion?
