I have a cobby type 13.2 who is a coloured Welsh A x ? Traditional cob. He has a Welsh type face, moderate amounts of feather but pretty fine hair. I had thought of doing some fun cob/hairy type classes but now he has slimmed down I wonder if he is too fine/lightweight. Is 7" bone ( front ) a good amount for a 13.2 pony ? I have only had 16.3 I'D x before so he looks like a fairy to me !!! I had hoped to ride him myself soon but looking at him today I will need to lose more weight then I had initially aimed for. Will keep up the in hand walks for us both then !

I wasn't sure what amount of bone would be considered lightweight/middle weight etc. And there is no need to be rude. I may not have phrased it well but if you didn't like the post you didn't need to answer.

Wow how rude.

OP, at his height , lightweight, middleweight rule doesn't really apply to any classes. Depending on shows, usually cob classes will be 15hh+ when they take into consideration weights. Just go out and have fun on him, he sounds like mine, although my boy is crossed with a welsh c, and is 14hh.

Thank you ! He's a lovely boy just nothing like anything I have had before ! I just wasn't sure if he had enough bone to do the 'horse or pony of cob type classes' I have seen around.

Sorry JLD, I phrased it badly. I didn't mean it was pointless I meant that I was asking you to be more specific about what you wanted to do with him. Can you put up a pic of him that way it's easier to categorize him.

This is Lucy my lovely old mare.

She was 13.2hh and had nearly 9 inches of bone.

As has been said above there arn't realy weights in pony classes. I always came up against rider age restrictions as although Lucy was a welsh I had no papers for her so she couldn't be shown as an M&M.

That's really helpful. I had nothing to compare him to. He is slightly lighter built then Lucy I think. Because he is coloured and hairy everyone assumes he is heavier than he is but I think his Welsh A line is quite fine rather than the chunking type. Laura - do you mind me asking how tall you are ? You looked great on 13.2 ! Sorry can't post pics I am a bit rubbish at things like that. Must look into it.

Hmm. Maybe a mini cob lite !! Don't think I'll find that class ! Think will stick to coloured classes. Pity they don't do prettiest gelding. He is much prettier than most mares, he wouldn't have a hope in handsomest gelding !

Thankyou. She was very chunky bless her 13.2hh and wore a 5ft9 rug. I'm 5ft2" I now have a 14.1hh forester and a 12.2hh forester :) I love ponies they are the best :D
