7 horses in two years.

Hi All my horses are home bred, so I have owned most from birth to the end. But I do worry about a livery of ours who has had 7 horses in two years. She is really made up with them at first then after a few months feels the need to change horses again. I am not comdeming her in any way its just she never seems content and is always striving for the perfect horse which sometimes time and effort can produce if you have the basics however she never seems to give them the time. There is now talk of number 8 and her present horse is really nice, no vices good in traffic but she now says its boring. Or is it just me ?
 
I don't know how she can part with them after such a short time! I get emotionally attatched to mine in no time at all

What I would give for one of these horses that get labled "boring" Mine is as green as grass, sharp as a new pin to hack and every time I ride him there is something new to fix!! I so wish he was a predict a pony to ride, as I am so not brave enough for him at times.
 
Well I have had 4 horses in 6 years, what does that make me???

Ella sold because my instructor at the time said I was too big for her (regret)
Otto sold as I just felt he wasn’t for me, making a great happy hacker though
Blackie still have as a youngster project but decide he wasn’t for me as my main man as I need something a little more forward going
And Bodey (my main man) in the process of being backed.

I do understand your concerns though.

I totally agree with you!!! No horse is perfect and thats why we have to train them to our way of going and even then they have bad days as they are not machines. If she is not going to put the effort in then she is never going to get the perfect horse.

I never want to sell my horse and hope she has a home for life with me but obvioulsy who knows what the future brings and i will only sell if its a last resort.
 
I couldn't do it, but it is each to their own at the end of the day. If she has the money to do it and thats what she enjoys, why not? As long as these horses are safe and well whilst in her care she isn't doing any harm.
 
Sounds like she has plenty of money!!! It must be expensive to keep swopping horses.

Personally I have always kept my horses and will continue to do so until they die. Not everyone is like me (and you lot out there) and dont form a strong bond.

I think as long as she is a responsible owner and the horses are well cared for and good homes are found, it would be hard to be critical. Looking at it from another side, the horses might be having a lucky escape. At least she is not getting fed up and a horse is being neglected.

I think I would be more inclined to cash in on her feckless ways and buy her non-fitting horsey stuff for a fraction of the price - why not - she can obviously afford to be changing saddles, rugs etc at a moments notice.
 
That is quite a lot of horses. It took me around 6 months to really bond with my horse. And I am still learning his good and bad points 10 months on. I find it really rewarding working with my horse and watching us both improve.

There is a girl at our yard however who never rides her own but does ride everyone elses. She just prefers change. Some people do get board quickly.

I can see her point of view but personally I prefer to have just the one and put my heart and sole into it.
 
I always thought horse hunting would be really stressful! Imagine the money you'd spend on vetting, new fittting tack, new rugs, sorting out insurance etc - then just to sell the horse

makes no sense to me, but then I still have my first pony 9 years on lol
 
I knew a girl exactly like that. She would buy a big flashy type - which would then become too much for her so she would sell it and buy a boring/safe type (just my sort !!) but would then become bored with it sell it, then buy a big flashy type and so the circle just continued !!! I feel sorry for the horses but not everyone is like this - some people are selling them for a genuine reason.
 
I have had 7 in about 3 years but the first had a knock on the head and went nuts = not a good 1st pony!! Although we did get her through all her box rest ect..wish i never sold her, if only i knew then what i know now!
2nd was molly..only sold her last summer as i was rediculously big for her and my sister didnt want to ride her(she was too naughty for my sis who was novicey then!)..She was in foal when i bought her(unbeknown to me!) so along came pony No 3 millie!! I kept her untill she was two and only sold her last summer to a loverly lady down the road!!
Pony No 4 was mudie a horrid grey who broke my wrists and bucked all the time for no reason..i had her on loan for a while then dad told me he had bought her for me the day i decided i wanted to give up the loan!!
So along came No 5 Xena!! Still have her and will always have her!! xena was also in foal (unbeknown to me!) so along came pony No 6 Xanthe my coloured filly who i will also keep forever!
When molly went my sister decided she wanted to look for a more suitable ponio so along came pony No 7! goldie who we decided to sell a few months back as sis wasnt interested anymore and i couldnt cope with 3 with GCSEs ect and it wasnt fair on him but hes gone to a great home where they sj him ect which is what he deserves!
I loved everyone of them but some i just didnt click with and they deserved to go to a home where they could fulfill their true potential! But i do agree that this lady is a bit quick in selling them ect!

i only bought my first horse last year - he's far from perfect but so am i so we make a great pair.
i love him to bits and will never sell him - he's 15 now so will hopefully have a fair few more years riding and then retire him as a companion horse as he loves his equine buddies and will be blissfully happy standing in a field all day eating and being a slob.
