So I took a video of the day I tried out Jacob to take on part loan back on October 2019, I hadn't ridden properly in a couple of years and it was a MESS. He had also been out of proper work for 4 years, his paces were so big it threw my balance completely off, I was rusty and tense, he was rusty and tense and I had no control of pace and only just had control of direction! (but I fell in love with him anyway, of course)
Below is the video:
I then hacked him out mostly to get some fitness and muscle (and I couldn't really ride one side of him in the school) and then started having lessons from Yvonne Huber when I bought him in January - and this was the turning point, she is incredible! Since then we have had some real behaviour issues out hacking (hence the addition of the air jacket), 2 bouts of lymphangitis, and one pierced sole of foot so haven't been as consistent as I would like but the below video is from today:
We need much more impulsion, but I am so pleased with him!! He is really letting go of some tension and looking much more relaxed; I have been working really hard on this and it's finally getting there. I am concentrating on having him in shoulder fore at all times, it's small at the moment while he gets more supple but it's there - his default is to put on giraffe neck and be looking around like a meerkat!
My riding needs a hell of a lot of work, you wouldn't believe I have been riding on and off for nearly 20 years! Although saying that I was mostly a happy hacker, blagging rides on anything I could until I bought my first horse 5 years ago. I don't look very graceful and it's really irritating me that I rise so high to the trot but I am working on it, promise! One of the reasons I bought Jacob was to learn to ride him, so I am giving it my best shot.
It would be great to know what people think be it good or bad! It's quite scary posting videos of me riding to the forum!
