Had my second post hospital appointment today, and have had my cast off!!!!

Can't tell you how happy I am to have it off, I'm told to wear my normal shoes again and have 25% weight bearing for a week, 50% the next and so on then have another appointment in 6 weeks.

He's has told me though that I shouldn't ride until November, which is disappointing I guess as I've lost yet another summer. I suppose it doesn't mean I can't do lots of ground work with him after my next six week check. He says the bones are back to full strength after 4-6 months from the op (May 19th, broke it on the 12th). I will start off on a plod though, even though I know Major is fine confidence wise I'd like to ride something easier first.

So here's a timeline of photos.

May 12th, 2013.

And these were June 5th, when the stitches were removed and a proper cast put on.

I won't share with you pre "operation look female again" as my leg was disgusting, however post clean up isn't so bad.

So here we go July 3rd, 7 weeks and three days since I came off.

Muscle wastage...

Back to not being able to walk at all again now - could get around before but now it has no support its not so easy!

Love the fact that you shoving gas and air into you and someone has taken a picture.

I hope you've had a dog in your bed and its not your moulting leg hair on the sheets ;)

Is there anything on the yard that's a bit quiter to get you back in the saddle ? The scar looks nice and tidy.

Yikes ! looks sore, second the hope you have had a feline/canine friend on the bed :D

Very brave ! fingers crossed you will be racing about in no time

Thank you all! Yes me and two dogs are crammed into my fathers spare room until I move into my place on the 19th, although my leg was just as hairy pre wash!

The photo of me on the floor I asked my dad to take one, I had been led there an hour waiting for the ambulance...!

I took video of my mate having her jods cut off after a knee smashing fall ! She was more than happy for me to do so - might of been the gas and air though ;) First thing she said when she got home was could I email the video over to her :D

GR, looks good considering the mess you made of it, riding in the summer is very overrated !

Nice job - you've done very similar to me but the opposite way if that makes sense - I had everything squidge out the front.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start using a joint supplement now as thats your real enemy now - I got about 3-4 years before arthritis kicked in. I did a hell of a lot of damage so you may well get longer but be aware of it and do what you can to prevent it

You go GR, so positive to hear of your swift recovery. I'm lying in hospital bed with a broken back and 5 broken ribs thanks to a reformed rearer going up and over and landing on top of me.
Just be sure to take it slow and steady, I know you'll be raring to go but there's always next summer

 OMG, you poor thing :( Hope you heal up super quick.

Girlracer, glucosamine and chondroitin all in one plus cod liver oil. Make sure the glucosamine is as high a purity as you can find. I think you need calcium plus phosphorous to activate it too, but check that, I might be making it up! :p

I think it's brilliant to have pics, wish I had one from the day when my leg was really spectacular!

Loving the pink wrap on the cast: did they ask what colour you wanted?!

How are you supposed to do 25% weight bearing?

Henmother - so sorry to hear of your accident that sounds dreadful. Wishing you a speedy recovery x

CT - I will look into that thank you!

He told me to try and split my body weight into four and add it gradually, I don't think it's an exact science and I'm not convinced I'm not 70% rather than 25% lol. But the weight is good it's just the movement in my ankle that's difficult.

Decided myself and Major are going to stick to being dressage divas for a little while!
