And I don't miss it one bit! Still have the horses, they are pets and that's my business, but the thought of riding leaves me cold.

Horses for courses. I love the looking after of my horses and doing ground work and if I could no longer ride I would still keep a couple of ponies but I love riding more than all the rest of it I have to say.

Out of interest, why were you not enjoying riding?

I know what you mean. The thought of riding makes me scared. I never miss it if I have a break. I'm now sticking to groundwork; do what you enjoy :)

I turn into even more of a rabid psychopath if I don't ride. Even if I didn't mind, everyone I meet would be begging me to get back in the saddle :p

I didn't ride for 10 weeks over this winter due to horse's abscesses and the weather. TBH I didn't really miss it until a couple of weeks ago when the weather got better. Now, thankfully his foot is better so I have just started riding again and I am enjoying it so much more. At one point during his lameness I thought I might lose him as he had such a swollen leg I was sure he had a tendon sheath infection. I vowed that if he got better I would do more with him and learn to trust him more. Since he has been better I have hacked out twice on my own - something I was too nervous to do last year. And horse has been as good as gold. I am now looking forward to the competition season!
What I am saying is that a good break from riding is good for you - and to remember its your horse - you can do what you like with him. If that just means grooming them thats perfectly fine - nobody else's business!

Nothing wrong with enjoying equine company pure and simple. We don't have to make them carry us to enjoy having them :)

Everyone is different, if you do not enjoy riding what is the point. If you enjoy looking after as you call them your pets that is great. I know people that carry on riding and they are scared .......less, but they will not just admit this and say they would just be as happy if not happier just looking after them and loving them. Good on you.

I havent ridden in nearly a year as my lovely 5 year old is retired :'( but I love him so much and as long as his happy so am l , only miss riding when the sun is out, so not much then ;-) . Ive had so many people say I should put him to sleep as he cant be ridden and get on I can, I just tell them to **** off :-D
