The Lincolnshire County Council is currently working with the British Horse Society, the British Driving Society and other organisations to establish a 75 mile trail across the Lincolnshire Wolds suitable for carriage drivers, horse riders, cyclists and walkers.

The new signs depicting a Horse and Carriage can already be seen at road crossings along the route.

This is an invitation to the official opening of The Lindsey Trail.

Lincolnshire County Council has been working with the British Driving Society, the British Horse Society and other organisations to establish a 75 mile trail across the Lincolnshire Wolds suitable for carriage drivers, horse riders, cyclists and walkers.

The trail, which will be one of the first routes in the country suitable for carriage drivers, will extend from Willingham Woods in the north to Horncastle in the south. The British Driving Society, British Horse Society, East Lindsey District Council, Lindum Endurance Horse Society and Lincolnshire County Council have all contributed funding to the project.

The implementation of the trail is now nearly finished and so far works have included;

The erection of ‘Carriage driving’ road warning signs
Access control works
Surface improvement works
The production of Lindsey Trail maps
The production of trail waymarkers
Securing access in Willingham Woods for carriage drivers and horse riders
Attention will now concentrate on the promotion and publicity of the trail. The coming months will see the installation of interpretation panels, the publication of a trail leaflet and further developments on the webpage http://microsites.lincolnshire.gov.uk/countryside/visiting-the-countryside/equestrian

The trail will be officially opened in April 2012 - date to be confirmed but probably Sunday 29th April at 11am approx.

Maps showing the route can be found on the webpage above and I have attached the northern map section to this page so that you can come to the opening at Willingham Woods - loads of room in the car park for all - THE MORE THE MERRIER!

So, please tell all of your friends, post this on Facebook, Tweet like crazy, forward this email and text your contact list!! We want as many riders, drivers, cyclists and walkers as possible to come and enjoy this truly AMAZING trail in Lincolnshire. The Northern section has lovey hills and gradients and even a ford if you fancy a splach or try your horse in water!

Please let me know if you are thinking of coming - car and horsebox sharing would be a good idea if you can. We hope to have someone popular to come and open the trail and I'm sure a BHS stand will be there too!

I look forward to seeing you there by foot, wheel or hoof!

Best wishes from Jodi C Shanahan - BHS North Lincs Membership Secretary
