Today it snowed heavily and we now have 8 inches of snow at the yard. Went to Homebase and bought their 2nd last sack of grit. Horses are happy out during the day and digging for grass. SNow is light and fluffy.
I am very tempted to ride in the show field tomorrow. It's flat and big. Horse is shod on front feet, am I right in greasing them right up? Or is there a better way of keeping snowballs out? I'm sure hinds will be fine.

When I was a kid we used to ride in the field in the snow and not worry about it. So why am I so worried?

Yer we used to ride in the snow when i was a kid, then i got all competive jumping and i didnt ride him in the snow as his feet would be on stilts, then last just had my daughters barefoot pony and she was fine, i think its shod feet that really struggle daughters pony didnt once get snowballed feet!! So im guessing the ponies i rode when a kids didnt have shoes, just cant remeber that far back!!LOL:D

Mam (in Newcastle) reckoned she had a foot of the stuff yesterday-she's in Newcastle, Fenham. PMSL cos she just came back from Oz on Tuesday!

North Yorkshire coast - it's bad all the way from scarbro up to redcar. I'm slightly concerned as we haven;t picked up all our winter hay yet, I think we've got enough til it thaws as we're meant to have it for the next 10 days! Shocking!

we have had it since tues morning:(
totally fed up with it - if it stays like this its going to be another long long winter

At least a foot of the white stuff here in Aberdeenshire! Last nights top up is dry and powdery, not windy yet but, hells bells, if it blows we're all really in for it. Fortunately we do have enough keep for the winter, but locally there is a shortage of straw and goos hay/haylage.

I reckon we've just got a very hard frost here but still enough to put play on hold! Was meant to be going hunting and been looking forward to it all week :(

About 2ft here in my part of Aberdeenshire, have a ski slope in my garden from keeping the snow off the weak shed roof......could even make a few bob out of it this year lol.

woke up this mornign to good couple of inches...and surprise surprise the gritters have been caught out again!! I'm about to head to yard hopefully i will be able to get there now the sun has come up!!

I'm very jealous!! I want some snow!!!! :) x

No you really really don't! Had masses up here in NE Scotland and been snowing properly all day :( It makes everything SO difficult! Have to drive to my mums in a bit (normally take 20 mins, will take at least 40 today!) to do the horses - that'll be fun... just hope we don't get stuck. Snow is always so exciting when it starts but after a day it just plain irritating! Meant to keep snowing here for the next 10 days :( PLEASE lets not have another winter like the last one where we had snow permanently from December until end of March, it ended up with me having to get a new car as it destroyed my last one!
