At the weekend I had a friend come and do some inhand practise with my youngster. She put him in a halter with a 9' rope (the heavy sort, it was parelli)

I can't seem to find a 9' one without having to fork out £32 for a proper one! Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Bourbons and orange squash for you all :)

Your dicing with death saying the 'P' word on here

Haha thought I might be :D I would like to justify the use of this word... It is for practising his inhand showing, he needs more control that the headcollar but he's not ready to be lead in his bit :D The rope is handy because it's nice and heavy and long enough to shake the end at him to make him turn in the corners, please forgive me! :D

horseaddict-Thankyou, but I can't see it, only the 12ft, which is all a bit much to hold on to :(

Sorry, you're right, yes thats the 12 ft.

If you ask him nicely he'll probabaly splice or fix it for you depending on the rope. I use rope that has a tiny amount of give, I think it's used for sails, saves rope burn.

I use them with our youngsters or my sisters kids on 'lead rein' being 10ft away from them allows them to make their own mistakes without the pony running off.

When my ancient 10' lead rope finally gave up the ghost, I had to nicely ask my parents to send me another one from the US as there were no 10' ropes to be found here. I never did think of going to a boat shop. Next time.....
