Took me exactly 2 hours to go through the olympic XC thread this morning...

(I blew it: Stupid me went to bed early with alarm set for 2:00 and slept through it...)

Very exciting thread apart from the distracting food and wee posts

...

General impressions based on your comments:

As expected, true horsemanship paid off.
Gutted for AN but sounds like he was asking for it

hope lord K's ok though...
AT's fall just goes to show there is an eventing god

. Again,hoping Poggio's fine
So happy for Mary King

If some nations said to be lesser/weaker ones had trouble, some of the team members of the more experienced nations also had some lessons in the humility department

I'm over the moon for Didier and Ismene who moved up to 7th

Overall relieved no one/horse got hurt.
Wonder if the fact that the Germans had won the test run (am I correct ?) has anything to do with their result ? What do you think ?
Hope everybody survives the day

Only saw the last 30 seconds of Mary King across country. And I agree BE - there is an eventing God. It' gave me a great deal of satisfaction to read that AT had a tumble (I make no apologies for it).

Anyone know how Alex did???

I couldn't agree more, hope Poggio is ok.
As for the German team, I must confess to having a small amount of awe for their preparation of everything, they just seem to be dealing with everything so well.
I had a quick squint at the thread but I am hoping to catch the highlights tonight.

I cheered when AT fell off - serve you right.

I nearly cried when Alex fell off - so sad. It was at a little wall, horse just left a leg behind.

I then fell asleep after WFPs round.

And Lucinda and Brit - dropped right down

What happened here - over zealous riding??

They were very slow and took 2 long routes. The commentators said that she said she was riding for the team.

Alex's horse tried to bank a wide-ish wall (that did look rather 'bank-like' in my eyes) and tipped up on landing. He looked extremely peeved! It was fairly early on too (though not as early as the poor French chap that fell at fence 4

I'd agree with the male vanity comment, he really was just trying to tear the arse of WFP IMO and unfortunately he just pushed that bit too hard on a horse who was tiring

AN's fall looked like a typical 'thoughtless' fall to me. If he had just felt how his horse was instead of running on his own adrenaline, he'd have known he should have taken the alternative; even I, just a watcher not do-er, could see poor horse was just not set up properly for it. Great shame for the poor horse.

It does sound uncharacteristic of AN though... Wonder what was going through his head ?
Knowing how experienced he is + what I know of him, I can't quite figure out such an error of judgement and lack of consideration of his horse...

AN did the same thing at Burghley last year - was chasing the time and opted for a direct route towards the end that was never really going to happen, ended up with the horse getting a front foot stuck in the jump and he had to jump off quick to help lift it out.
