I want to say how wonderful this feed is. It is the single only feed I have found that my big boy, Lanky, actually gobbles down happily without kicking the bucket over in frustration, picking it up in his teeth and chucking it, dropping food (teeth have been checked numerous times) and taking a very long time to eat a small feed, often not finishing the feed at all.

I don't know why this is - maybe it's the mint smell and flavour - but he loves it, and this will sound sad but I really enjoy watching him eat it because I know how much he enjoys it. It smells pretty good on a cold, wet, dreary 6am stable duty as well!

Anyway, pointless post, but I am so pleased to have found a conditioning feed that my horse will happily eat!

I really rate A&P horse feeds and this one in particular for putting condition on...without any fizz.

However you have made it sound so scummy, I might start eating myself lol

...although I don't need any more condition but I could do with the fizz!

I toolove the A&P feeds, we had my sister's horse on the weight gain as a youngster as he was a little weak and it didn't half build him up!

We have actually stopped using A&P now though mainly due to the cost and buy our feed store's own coarse mix (which is apparently badminton horse feeds) as it's half the price. Horses still seem to do well on it though. However, if the oldies start dropping too much weight come winter they may be back on the A&P Old Faithful - they love that!

LOL Kenzo! Like I said, on a dreary morning when I'm mixing the feeds, the temptation really is there to just have a little nibble - it smells so good.

rachel, I was recommended it a while ago but I'd had more recommendations for spillers so went for that. My boy didn't rate spillers as highly as all these people that recommended it as he would kick his bucket over in temper! None of this with A and P. Anyway, I realise it is a matter of taste, but I am so happy I have found something he loves to eat!

Just a question re the A and P Calm and Condition. On the pack it says to feed between 1 and 5kg for horses in light work, more for those in medium work. He is between the two to be honest, and I rarely feed the recommended amounts of any feed; but as it is summer I've got him on half the recommended amount for light work (so 500g a day, soaked, which makes a nice large amount), and in winter I intend to increase it to at least the recommended amount for light work if not more.

He struggles a bit september onwards to hold condition and last year I managed it with spillers when he dropped off too much (half recommended amount), speedibeet and veg oil.

Another thumbs up for A&P from me - I have my girl on the "Power and Performance" version... really noticed the difference in her condition.. I found out about it from another lady at the yard when I commented that I could almost see my face in her pony's coat!!

Also like it as my girl needs loads of extra fizz but puts weight on breathing air.. at the mo, I can feed oats and relatively little of this as it bulks up with the water thereby tricking her into thinking she's getting loads..! LOL

Another one who love A&P - Luca needed a lot of building up but we were just starting to back him and didnt want ANY fizz... this stuff did the job, now he's on Ride and Relax as he's up to weight, and he shines!!

I also love the smell and the fact their feeds swell up so last longer...

Their fast fiber is great for ponies who need a little extra help too - my other lad suffers from stomach ulcers and this stuff gives him something to munch on for a long time but is basically mashed up hay and grass - he's a VERY fussy eater but loves this stuff...

QR how long do you soak it for and do you use hot or cold water?

i did try it before but YO was feeding him it so not sure how its made up

You mix it with an equal amount of chaff and double the amount of water (cold or hot I suppose - doesn't matter), and then mix and leave for 5-10 minutes then mix again and feed.

It is really easy to do - instructions on the bag.

It has the same calorific value as speedibeet, which I was feeding him over the winter, but speedibeet was also not something he relished.

It says on the packet, but you add the same quantity of water as you did nuts and then only need to soak it for 5 mins or so - so just enough time to empty your wheelbarrow or something.. swells up really quickly, then just feed it.

Yummy (or so the horse thinks...)

I feed this to both of mine in winter, its fantastic and keeps the weight on the really well, just cannot use it in spring/summer as the tend to turn into round lumps

Thanks for the recommendation after everyone saying how good this is, I'm going to try it.

I use this to keep weight on an OAP shetland.
He has problems with his teeth so its easy for him to eat, and he loves it (which is a bonus!).
Also use it for the ginger ninja as she can drop weight quite quickly over winter.

Wow, great to see lots of others rate it as well, and nice to see that others are going to try it on the back of these testimonials. I reckon A and P are going to do a roaring trade from this thread.

I think I should get a discount.

Teeheee!

We feed C&C to our oldie, it keeps her weight on nicely all year round. We mix it with grass pellets, rather than chaff, (she went off Alfa-A). We do occasionally mix it with water in the evening ready for the morning feed, it is surprising how much more bulk there is. I don't think it makes much difference, if it had been going to upset her either way, it would have done so by now. We like A&P, (we used to feed Old Faithful) because there is nothing in their feeds that horses would be better not eating - approved by the vegetarian society.

I'm afraid Calm & Condition doesn't suit one of my horses, it has the reverse effect & makes him hyper. I think it's the barley in it. I changhed onto Ride & Relax & that does the job a treat.
