Oh dear H got himself into trouble at the vets earlier.

He had to go in and have x rays done, the usual nurse who deals with the dogs wasn't in. So we had to deal with someone else today.

She decided that she couldn't possible put him in a pen being as excited as he was (he can be veerry bouncy when he wants to be), so came out with a shot of sedation for him She then insisted that he had his collar removed so he could wear one of theirs. When usually they just use a slip lead . So she put a collar and lead on him, This is after i told her twice i would swap it over for her, His collar doesn't un-clip so had to go over the other collar and lead so was a pain to get off, she decided that she could also do this faster than i was doing and H snapped at her.

She then proceeded to tell me how stupid i was to have a dangerous dog around kids and may best bet would be having him PTS.

Now to be perfectly fair he should NOT have snapped at her, BUT he was crowded in, He had chairs behind him and no where to go so i to a point understand why he did it.

So que me leaving a very stressed muzzled doped up dog with the vet.

He has never snapped at anyone before, not even people he has never met.

Do you think i should complain about the fact she didn't listen to me when i said i would swap collars around? or should i but down as a bad experiance and make sure the dog doesn't get in that situation again?

Sounds like a bit of a tit. It was an air snap I presume and it would have been worse if he had bitten her without warning. You did ask her not to interfere.
I would have a word with the vet and ask if you would be able to not have to be seen by this nurse again if possible.
I would also strongly suggest that when all is said and done, you take the pup back to the vets, have a wander round, get the staff to pet him and give him a treat so he does not associate the surgery with having a big trauma.

I had something mildly similar with a local vets, I ranted about it on here :o
They insisted he was brought in early for a skin scraping. Mum arrived at eight. No one arrived until half past. Four hours later I rang to check if I could collect him, they said they were just sedating him because he was 'hyper' so I said 'clearly, he has been in a cage for a long time' and asked if I could come down and sit with him as he would be fine with me but they said no. An hour later and they said they were still struggling with him. I finally collected him at about half three, by that time he had had enough sedative to choke a donkey :( every time I took him in they would insist he was muzzled and would slide around with their backs to the wall. He's a big dolt!!!

It was an air snap but most definatley aimed at her.

Oh has picked hunter up, he came out still muzzled .

We have to go back in next thursday so will speak to the vets then and also take treats and clicker with me.

I think if we have to deal with the silly moo again i may just bite her myself. ;)

The numpty climbed the back fence to chase something, im presuming suicidal squirrel was the culpret. And silly dog when finally dug out of next doors garden came back limping so really just a precautionary measure to make sure he hadn't broken/displaced or done anything else equally silly. As he seems to be in an awful lot of pain.

I haven't actually got recent pics of him, I will get some though. He is all out of proportion at the minute all long but not tall, if that makes sense? Stood on his back legs he is the same height as me and im 5'4, But he is only just over knee height.

What a shame. A bad experience like that can alter the way your dog behaves at the vets for ever. Dexter hates the vets, he get very scared and therefore growls and vets get nervous. Of course the fact that he is a stonking big rottie doesn't help! Luckily my vets are excellent and allow me to stay with him until he is asleep or sedated and also to be there when he wakes up. Much less stressful for him and them.
Might be worth having a word with your vet when you next go in and ask to do similar next time he has to go. If they are adamant you can't then I would be looking for a new vet.

Personally I'd try to have a quiet word with the vet when you go next week and explain what happened and that you would prefer not to see that particular nurse again (could add that him and the usual nurse seem to get on fine). The fact is that some people just aren't good at dealing with excitable / nervous dogs, be they vets, nurses dog groomers etc. The thing with the collars may be something new they've introduced (probably had a few too many annoyed clients whose pets collars they've managed to loose!) but if you were doing fine getting it off then she shouldn't really have felt the need to crowd him and interfere and bit of an over-reaction ranting at you like that! I'd just make sure his visit on thursday is a really positive one.

Write exactly what you have written here in a letter and hand to the vet, they can sit and read it quietly without getting defensive about their staff, I know our vets automatically defend us, its human nature really!

I think you put it really nicely here and they will understand XX
