Echo that - and a plea to all horse owners with horses at livery yards. Your horses are probably in more than normal, they will be getting through more forage than normal and the staff and owners will be working harder than ever. This means their beds are harder to keep clean and they will be getting through more bedding too. If and when you visit your horses, please skip them out before you leave!
The YO I help out was pulling her hair out on Christmas eve - she is trying to keep costs down by not using any extra bedding, yet when she came out to the yard, she met four owners leaving the yard - only to find that their six horses had between two and four piles of dropping in each bed!
They hadn't ridden so who knows what they were doing during the course of their visits!
I would like to say a massive thank you to my lovely hubby who gets up evry morning whatever the weather to help me muck out he even insists they have warm water in their breakfasts.
I would like to thank my YO/YM for providing haylage and straw and for installing water heater things on 2 taps in the yard so we don't have to cart water from home.
I'd like to thank my long suffering SO and family for understanding that horses even need to be cared for on Christmas day! And my friend where my pony lives for looking after him whilst I've been running around looking after the horse!
I would also like to thank my horse for being such a messy mare to muck out etc each day because I have managed to survive til xmas without putting on any extra weight! Yeay!
