I met Adam Goodfellow a few years ago when I had a very difficult mare, who wouldn't (amongst other things) stand for the farrier. He came out and did a session with me, and I've bumped into him a few times since then but never needed his help...until recently.

I had an issue with a horse, which I'd been trying to solve through all the normal routes, patience, repetition, doing a bit every day, generally making it all seem like a normal occurrence. But I'd reached a plateau - not getting any worse, but not getting any better.

So I emailed Adam, not actually asking for free advice over email (that would be a bit cheeky when it is his job!), but to say I've been doing this, and did he think he could help, or should I keep doing more of the same. I did say that if he thought he could help, I'd be more than happy to pay for him to come out - so was looking for a sort of 'yes, I can work with this' or 'no, keep doing what you're doing' answer. I included a description of what I'd tried to date, and a video of said equine issue.

I got a really sensible answer back - which was that I had a solution, and should stop trying to find a work round, and that given I had tried all the obvious (and a few not so obvious!) things, I should accept the solution the horse was giving me.

It's really nice that even though I'd openly said I would be prepared to pay £££ to sort this out, I got a very honest response back telling me (basically) not to waste my money. I've made a charity donation on their behalf as a thankyou, but I just thought people should also hear how straight and honest they are, and that there are some really genuine people in the world of horses still.

NH/IH gets a bit of a bad press on here, and I think this post should go some way to redressing the balance!

Sorry if this is all a bit vague - the horse isn't actually mine, so it's not my place to put the specifics on the internet.
